Next up in my #PhryneMarathon is not actually the next book in the series, but though Blood & Circuses has a beautiful cover, it‘s not my favourite story, maybe coz there‘s not much of Dot, the Butlers & Bert & Cec. This book is the one where she meets her lover Lin Chung when her and Bunji go to his aid in a street fight. Phrynes hired to find a theatre murderer, and maybe a ghost too.👻

Good mystery, first in series. An LAPD detective investigates the murder of a teenager girl. One of her main suspects is also the neighborhood man she suspects of killing her older sister twenty some years ago. Meanwhile she has to put up with her new partner who is a clueless white transplant from Colorado, and deal with her imploding marriage.

This was such a fun listen. I had never heard of it before I was browsing Hoopla. The cover caught my eye and the blurb sounded interesting. And boy was this an interesting listen. The cast of this audiobook is amazing. Between the voice work and the story, you are sucked in and can NOT stop listening.

Murdered, My Sweet | Joan Lowery Nixon

Mehso-so

⭐️⭐️
I LOVED Joan Lowery Nixon when I was a kid and I read a bunch of her books during my childhood, including this one. Reading it now, the nostalgia trip was kind of fun at times, but as for the actual story, this book is not one I found particularly enjoyable as an adult. The behavior of the adults in the book is totally absurd and requires way too much suspension of disbelief for me. Mystery loving kids would probably still enjoy it though ⬇️

shadowspeak17 as long as they don‘t mind that some things (technology) are very outdated.

I‘m using this for #booked2019 #FemaleDetective , and with that, I have finished Booked 2019! 🥳 Thanks so much for hosting this fun challenge @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage !

Bailedbailed

I was trying to read this for #booked2019 #femaledetective , but I‘ve gotten 30% in and just can‘t do it anymore. I can see how this book could end up being alright to me, but I don‘t know if it could be better than that. I‘m just so bored with it at the moment and would rather read other things, so I‘m bailing. I‘ve found another book I think will work for the #femaledetective prompt, so I‘m going to start that instead.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Sometimes reading choices are like that. Hope the second choice works for you! 2mo

4 🌟

This book kept me listening. It was a cozy mystery with a bit of romance and a lot of intriguer. I finished book one and now really need book two as the mystery is not solved, it has only gotten bigger! Hopefully Josie stays in the good graces of the King, and finds our fiend in book two: the Echo of Broken Dreams.

Down with the flu and the only thing to do was read. Sujata Massey‘s fictitious lawyer with super-sleuthing skills is great company! Perveen Mistry may be doing her bit for women‘s empowerment in the 1920s of Bombay. But she‘s every bit relatable! #Booked2019 #FemaleDetective #whodunit #MysteryWithAServingOfDelectableParsiCuisine
