A vivid read that really takes you to Vietnam and inside the characters minds. It‘s written in small, to the point sentences which when done right (like this) I love. O‘Brien plays with memory & fiction & what‘s real & what isn‘t but it worked so perfectly in putting across the point that you just can‘t know what war is truly like etc. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #soldiersstory #booked2019

Cinfhen This was such a powerful book. I read it years ago and haven‘t forgotten it 12h
merelybookish Great review! Ditto @cinfhen ☝️ The title story in particular has stayed with me. 12h
Liz_M This is one of my all-time favorite books. It was also my first introduction to meta-fiction. 12h
BookNAround To prove just how old I am, O‘Brien was the writer in residence at my college right after this came out so I got to be in a writing fiction class that he visited for a week or so. 11h
kspenmoll This book has defined Vietnam for so many over the years. Agree with you all; it stays with you. 10h

Lily and Dunkin | Donna Gephart
post image

When Dunkin sees a #beautifulstranger in the form of a blond girl, in a red dress, with eyes as blue as forest lakes, he becomes instantly interested in learning more about her. But the next time he meets the girl, she is wearing boy‘s clothes and says her name is Tim. Which is the name Lily was given at birth, but not the name of her real self.

And so begins the story of Lily and Dunkin, which is shaping up to be just wonderful ❤️

JennyM This sounds a great read! 13h
Kalalalatja @JennyM I‘m using it as my #diversemiddlegrade book for #Booked2019, and it is really great so far. I got through half of it on audio during my commute today 👌 13h
Cinfhen Lovely MG choice 💕 13h

3.5/5
Raw and uncomfortable, this memoir is about an addict and the lengths she went to in order to feed her addiction. I blew through this since her story captivated me. However, while I appreciated and applauded the author‘s honesty, I just didn‘t love the entitlement in her tone. I also wanted a bit more about her and what led to her becoming an addict. Without that, I felt I couldn‘t relate to her as much.

nelehelen @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft this one is for the “Book about Addiction” prompt! 1d
Cinfhen Great review and lovely photo. I‘m intrigued by this one ☝🏾 thanks for sharing 1d

My #weeklyforecast this week is dedicated to #booked2019 📚 I‘ve made some progress on each of these reads this weekend:

Ohio #bookaboutaddiction
William, an Englishman #soldiersstory
The Water Dancer #PoCMCParanormal (which I am LOVING by the way, can't put it down!)

Thanks to our hosts for the bookish inspiration!! @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

EmilyM I just finished Water Dancer this afternoon.....loved it! I think I am going to now read Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad to follow it up. 1d
4thhouseontheleft I really want to read The Water Dancer! I‘m on hold for it at the library. 1d
Cathythoughts I nearly got the Water Dancer the other day 🤔... maybe I‘ll go back & get it 👍🏻❤️ 1d
emilyhaldi @EmilyM its reminding me so much of Underground Railroad!! I'm already loving it as much. Perhaps thats why I keep thinking you would love it, Cindy! @Cinfhen (edited) 7h

Now Entering Addamsville | Francesca Zappia

#weeklyforecast

Gorgeous fall day--ran errands and did some cleaning, before another cold front moves in.

My goal is to finish “Now Entering Addamsville” before I go back to work on Tuesday--it‘s already a few days late, but so worth it.

After that, I have a couple of options. There‘s a few ebooks I want to get to, before they are due. I want to start reading my #Owlcrate backlog again
And I‘d like to get in a few more #booked2019 prompts.

Cinfhen I think you have lots of good options and a solid plan for the week!! And hurray for a lovely weather day!!!! 1d

Lies That Comfort and Betray | Rosemary Simpson
post image

I have completed the Fall prompts for #booked2019 and have one book left from Summer to complete the challenge! Except for Among The Hidden (3.5 stars) I consider them all 4.5-5 star reads for me!
The question by Lies that comfort and betray is because protagonist becomes addicted to Opium in the book, but the main story is the mystery.

Ruthiella Well done! 😁 2d

This book for middle grade up takes place during WWI. It was an excellent depiction of war on the home front of Scottish Lowlands and well written with emotional depth and understanding. I highly recommend it to anyone who reads historical fiction and war stories. #homeschoolhistory #bbrcdogsrule #booked2019 #soldierstory

It‘s been a while since I participated in a #24b4Monday readathon, so I figured I‘d see what I can do with the long weekend. This book is amazing, and gives me a lot of insight on how the brains of people with autism work. I‘m also submitting this as the book that reminds me of my happy place for #booked2019 because I really and truly love working with the kiddos I work with.❤️

Cinfhen This was an interesting insight into the mind of someone who is usually more closed off. 2d
rwmg He's great. His later book was very good as well, though both are perhapsnot generalisable. 2d
MolliesaurusRex @Cinfhen @rwmg it was recommended to me by a coworker (I teach in a school that strictly serves students with autism) and while I know it isn‘t applicable to every one of my students (“Once you know one person with autism, you know one person with autism.”) I feel like it‘s given me a better understanding of some of the things they do. I feel like it should be required reading in my school! 2d

This was one of my #fivestarpredictions books which I‘m trying to make an effort to finally read and it fits a #booked2019 prompt so perfect time to start. It‘s one I‘ve wanted to read for years. #MrBook1inaMillion #24B4Monday #LitsyPartyofOne
