I quite enjoyed the audio of this retelling of The Prisoner of Zenda. I love a fun tale of adventure, intrigue, and derring do. I need more swashbuckling on my TBR. ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️

My #weeklyforecast/#easterextravaganza goal is to get three books off La TBR: THE HENCHMEN OF ZENDA*, THE LAST MAASAI WARRIORS, and THE SILENCE OF THE SEA.
I‘m also want to finish the last volume of WISH, at least start SWEEP OF THE BLADE, and maybe launch a FLORA‘S DARE reread if there‘s enough time.
* not pictured because the cover isn‘t embedded in the ebook. This is the case with many of Charles‘s titles and it makes me sad.
I spent most of last week with HOUSE NAME. Worth it.
On audio, I finished RESISTANCE REBORN, RED AT THE BONE, and AS LONG AS GRASS GROWS. I also bailed on RED SISTER at 54%.
I got through another volume of WISH and a decent chunk of THE LAST MAASAI WARRIORS.
I made a good start on THE HENCHMEN OF ZENDA. It‘s a delight so far.
RUNNING WITH THE PACK failed the 3-chapter test. 😔
I never even touched HAWKMAN or INVISIBLE KINGDOM. #bookreport
I love those early 20th century English adventure novels where the heroes are upstanding and honourable, the villains are irredeemably wicked and the women are (almost always) decorative but useless. I find them very funny. This delightful pastiche of a book very cleverly turns the story of The Prisoner of Zenda on its head and delivers intrigue, thrills, strong women and an m/m romance. Thanks @Dragon for bringing it to my attention. #romantsy
Good fun. I feel like I wanted more development of the relationship between Jasper and Rupert, but there is something appealing about their ease with each other. It didn't feel like there were too many sex scenes for me to skip, either.
(Note: if you don't know, I'm asexual. Nothing wrong with the way Charles writes sex scenes, but lacking in deep emotional connection as they are here, I can take or leave them.)
This ebook was a blast. M/m historical romance novels are not very common so I was excited to see KJ Charles had a new ebook out. This story is funny and hot 🔥. It is a great take off on my favourite swashbuckler Prisoner of Zenda. Jasper is a sexy villain for hire and he wants to set the whole Zenda incident straight. #romantsy
I am a mercenary, a henchman, cannon fodder for those whose battles make up the pages of history. Men like me skulk away into the darkness, or die in it. Heroic rescues are for heroes. -- Jasper Detchard
Latest read: a retelling of The Prisoner of Zenda from the "villain's" point of view. Schemes within schemes, an unusual romance, sympathetic characters, smart women, sword fights, tight breeches, and a dramatic conclusion. Highly recommended. #historicalfiction #queeringclassics #mmromance
I've been waiting for this book to release and I'm eager to read it but have decided I'd better re-read Prisoner of Zenda again first. 😉
