Moone Boy: The Blunder Years
Moone Boy: The Blunder Years | Chris O'Dowd
Martin Moone is eleven and completely fed up with being the only boy in a family of girls. He's desperate for a decent wingman to help him navigate his idiotic life. So when best mate Padraic suggests Martin get an imaginary friend or "IF" for short he decides to give it a go. His first attempt is Loopy Lou, a hyperactive goofball who loves writing rubbish rap songs. But Martin soon gets fed up with Lou's loopiness and decides to trade in his IF for someone a little less wacky. Enter Sean "Caution" Murphy, an imaginary office clerk in a bad suit with a passion for laziness and a head full of dodgy jokes. Sean is full of tips and tricks to guide Martin through the perils of the playground, from dealing with his sisters' pranks to besting the bullying Bonner boys. But getting rid of Lou is not that easy, and having TWO imaginary friends is a recipe for trouble!"

The audio edition of this book is even funnier than the print. Chris O‘Dowd reads perfectly, of course, given that he plays Martin‘s imaginary friend on the show, and Nick Vincent Murphy plays Martin and makes the footnotes work quite well (although I am still not sure the audience of this book).

rabbitprincess @TheAromaofBooks this is my #BookSpin pick for March 2020 😄 5y

Getting ready to start my March #BookSpin pick... with three days to spare! And the audio is only about five hours long, so I might even finish it!

rabbitprincess @TheAromaofBooks I'm just amazed that it wasn't one of the many Doctor Whos on my list, haha 😂 5y
TheAromaofBooks haha it does look like the odds were in favor of DW, but apparently the #bookspin fates had other plans for you this month!! 😆 5y

Shamrocks 🍀 make me think of Ireland, which makes me think of this funny middle grade novel in the vein of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The book is based off of an Irish sitcom of the same name, and both are written by actor Chris O'Dowd. The show is hysterical, and watchable on Hulu, if you want to check it out. 🍀😁🍀#emojinov @RealLifeReading

My current favourite friendship is that between Martin Moone and his imaginary friend, Sean "Caution" Murphy. Sean is the one on the left. And yes I know these are TV characters, but they also exist in book form, so there ?

Pickpick

This may be more enjoyable and make more sense if you watch the show Moone Boy (which I do). The book is a prequel that eventually overlaps with the beginning of Series 1. The actual story is more amusing than the footnotes, but overall a nice treat.
