On a beach in Antarctica, scientist Adam Leith marks the passage of the summer solstice. Back in Sydney his partner Ellie waits for the results of her latest round of IVF treatment. That result, when it comes, will change both their lives and propel them into a future neither could have predicted. In a collapsing England, Adam will battle to survive an apocalyptic storm. Against a backdrop of growing civil unrest at home, Ellie will discover a strange affinity with beekeeping. In the aftermath of a pandemic, a young man finds solace in building virtual recreations of the dead. And new connections will be formed from the most unlikely beginnings.

More cli-fi. Not bad by any means, but it does have problems.
The episodic structure through time made it difficult to connect to any of the characters.
There's a thoughtlessly ableist response to autism.
I don't know what JB's issues are around motherhood, but he's spilled them on the page.
These things I can work around: the ending I cannot (see comment under spoiler alert).

quietlycuriouskate The world is totally f*cked up but, hey, we could see it as a new beginning and look how great we humans are with our resilience and our caring for our nearest and dearest; let's give ourselves a pat on the back and hit the snooze button again. Just no! 😠 5mo
RamsFan1963 I thought I'd read this book and enjoyed it, but then I read the synopsis, and it didn't sound like the book I read. Turns out there's another book called Clade by Mark Budz. That's the one I read and thought was pretty entertaining. It's also cli-fic. 5mo

Brilliant. Terrifying to consider but so cleverly written.

Amusingly I misread the title as Glade...
This is flippin good so far, the idea of climate change occurring as the story unfolds so we are in it with the characters.

3⭐️

A good book that looks at: climate change, fertility issues, autism, grief and roles of technology. Clade takes the reader along as they follow the lives of a family over three generations into the future. Starting in the beginning of the 21st century, the possible future impacts of climate change are depicted in an very eerie and unsettling way.

Short, satisfying climate-change story, set in the future. Glad I stopped to check it out. 💕

This book is truly haunting. I've almost finished the book in one sitting and if I wasn't falling asleep sat up, I would finish it tonight. It's terrifying. The layout of the book is amazing. Australian writing at its finest. 🌻 #jamesbradley #clade #titanbooks #booklover #bookstagram #bookblogger #bibliophile #met_createchange

#readjanuary day 7, #booksaboutnature . Clade is climate change fiction, written by a man who taught me most of what I know about writing. Top notch read!
