Aliens: Vasquez | V Castro

I'm almost done and this book has been pretty interesting overall - but I REALLY need more xenomorphs tbh. This one is suffering from a general lack of alien creatures given it being part of a larger franchise that prides itself on the titular monster. 😅

RamsFan1963 I have this on my TBR shelves, I'll be interested to see your review 16h

Another super read from Ronald Malfi. This was great, I read in 2 days. Very atmospheric and gripping mystery with a real sense of place.

TrishB I enjoyed this one too 👍🏻 glad I still have so many of his back catalogue to get to. 1w
Oryx @TrishB the one coming out next year sounds really good too! Let me know which one you get to next (and I'll do likewise 😁). 1w
TrishB I have Bone White on the pile - so that will be next. Whenever that may be I‘ll give you a shout. 1w

After Aaron‘s wife is killed, he discovers some secrets that she had been hiding and it sends him on a journey to finish what she had started. Haunted by grief (and maybe even his wife), this book wasn‘t scary or propulsive, but I did want to keep reading. It was reminiscent of Peter Straub and Thomas H. Cook. More literary than I expected. This was my first book by Malfi, and I would definitely read more. 4⭐️

Ooohmygosh @Jadams89 !! You picked the perfect books for #AllHallowsReadSwap #ahs24 !! I‘m so excited for both of these - a full novel by Malfi, & the 2nd: that title! Also, prefect candy!! I love the s‘mores marshmallows!! & that key lime bar is soooo yummy! (Yes, I‘ve already tried both 🥸) And of course, a giant Kit Kat bar is 🎉. Love that card too! Thank you!!

And thanks to @MaleficentBookDragon for always hosting one of my favorite swaps!

Jadams89 Yay! Glad you like it!! 9mo
MaleficentBookDragon That all looks fantastic! A new book to stack and new candy for me to find. S‘mores 🤤 9mo

#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #BookRecommendations #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks

Here are some books that happen on a #ChillyNight.
1. Come with Me- this book was my first Malfi, and I've read everything of his I could find since then. It has a great old-school horror vibe.
2. The Winter People- such a great read by another favorite author. More suspense than horror.
3. Dead Voices- this is part of a MG series, and I loved them all.
More below ⬇️

Addison_Reads 4. The Lost Village- this book creeped me out! It left me uncomfortable and unsure, but so invested in the story as things unraveled. 10mo

I did like this. Just something lacking for me. Certainly not scary. Subtly done though and I did love the ending. Just something missing which I can‘t put my finger on. I think I will try another one of his books. Maybe it‘s his style. Or me? 🤷🏻‍♀️

First book read in 2024, New Year🙌
This is like a suspense, mystery novel. One December morning, Allison was killed at the mall (It‘s in the book blurb). During the process to move Allison‘s things, Aaron discovered that his wife was full of secrets and the story is about to discover Allison‘s real self but there are eerie elements in the atmosphere. It is a slow pace reading, character driven and Aaron is in a deep grief state, sad story 😔⬇️

Gissy I was expecting more paranormal/horror elements. However, I liked this author‘s writing style, at least in this novel. He expresses so well Aaron‘s feeling that you feel Arron‘s grief. I liked when author describes that Aaron has another self, ”I retreated wholly into other-Aaron during this time”. So you will see Aaron‘s behavior in front of other persons and when he is alone...in sadness😢 That end...3.8 ⭐️

It took me a minute to decide what to rate this one. I loved the ending. It was super unique and unexpected. And the middle started out strong. But the ending lacked just a little something. It felt more like a thriller that needed a bit more depth. But overall it was a fun read I just expected more supernatural elements.
