This story, set on an island where things disappear & almost everyone loses the memory of them, made me ponder a lot. Very mysterious about where & what happens to the people who remember & are taken by the memory police. Author was able to instill sadness, suspense, the terror & threat of the police, as well as joyful moments between the main characters. Dystopian relevant to our current dystopian country. This was my #doublespin for March.

Suzanne Collins is a phenomenal writer! I adored every page of getting to know Snow and understand why he is the way he is. It was fascinating! Can‘t wait to read about Haymitch next!

This dystopian novel in which cannibalism is legalized due to a virus making animal meat poisonous to humans. The scary thing is I could see something like this possibly happening. This is a dark story and I‘ll admit the characters aren‘t really likable….but the story was unique enough with effective world-building to the point it kept my attention with a twist or two I wasn‘t expecting at the end!

Interesting story, with lots of tie-ins to the other books. It felt like there was a huge build up to the game, then the game, then an incredibly rushed ending. But I enjoyed it.

Parable of the Sower | Octavia E Butler
Mehso-so

I‘m conflicted. Mainly because I hear good things, yet I don‘t feel any different having read it myself. Do I regret reading? No, though it took me a while to read as it felt un-engaging. Didn‘t understand what was going most of the time. The plot didn‘t pick up much, though got better halfway through. Lauren didn‘t mean much to me, the hyper-empathy wasn‘t really used as any plot device, not matter how important it sounded like it would be.

5feet.of.fury Agree, the hyper empathy would be forgotten until someone/something needed to be shot. 1d

Parable of the Talents | Octavia E. Butler
Pickpick

The follow-up book to the dark The Parable of the Sowers is centered on the rise of Christian Nationalism as the population is desperate to re-establish normalcy. Horrific things happen to the Earthseed group under this new theocracy. But like Earthseed‘s cache phrase “God is change”, there is hope for the future. Both books are worth reading if you can take the human suffering.

I devoured this, even with knowing the ending. It‘s been a long time since I‘ve read about the reaping, training, parade, trying to overthrow the Capital with disastrous results, and the arena where all things go to hell. This pairs fantastic with sitting poolside and is nostalgically wonderfully dramatic.

🌕 Red Rising is a total starburst of feels! 💥 I couldn‘t stop listening—Darrow‘s fire, the plot twists, the mission! 😱🔥 It‘s smart, bold, and weirdly cozy for a story about rebellion 😅. The world feels so now 🌍, and I kept thinking, “Why isn‘t this a movie yet?!” 🎬💫 More than sci-fi—it‘s heart, hope, and a howl for change 🐺❤️✨. OBSESSED.
