The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal is a novel about Victorian ghost hunter Simon and his partner/lover/chronicler Robert Caldwell. This book was pretty good but a tad stale for KJ Charles. Her books are typically on my autobuy list.

An excellent distraction today. The narration is flippant and funny, and I love the way it's completely obvious that Simon adores Robert without need for the words.

Lots of sex scenes, some plot-necessary; honestly, the sex-averse probably just want to avoid this book, though it's lovely.

Today the antibiotics have made me so sick I'm skipping work, but lying propped up in bed with a hot water bottle, I can manage to read. Love the humour in this, love them being idiots, wondering a lot about this line.

Those of you making RIP XIII lists should consider this novel-in-stories. KJ Charles takes the classic Victorian ghost story and queers it up as Robert, who for many years played Watson to ghost hunter Simon's Holmes, decides to quit censoring himself and relate their most personal adventures as they actually happened. This means treasonous secrets and queer love, plus the occasional murder by inaction. It's good stuff.

I'm HUNGRY, so I made myself a second lunch to eat while I read some more of THE SECRET CASEBOOK OF SIMON FEXIMAL. This plate was so good I immediately prepped and ate another, and I'm pretty sure I could fit a third in with zero effort.

Four stars. Grown-up men in a real, developing relationship. Believable underpinning of a fun urban fantasy.

Read this in one day. This book blew me out of the water. I loved Simon and Richard. I loved their relationship. The end of this book really hit me and I cried at my desk at work. Highly recommended!
