I saw others refer to Amy Levy as a Jewish Jane Austen. I think this is a fair comparison of the content - sitting rooms, dances, afternoon tea, manners & propriety, etc. However, the characters in the novel aren‘t as fleshed out as in an Austen novel. The writing was sparse and simple.

The P&P quote doesn‘t have anything to do with Rueben Sachs. But I didn‘t willfully misunderstand the book. 🙃

Written just a decade after Brontë‘s Villette, but Braddon‘s book feels more modern somehow. Going into this without knowing much but enjoying it so far ? #weekendreads @rachelsbrittain

I liked book two of Samantha and Wyatt‘s adventures. Hoping to get to book 3 soon. Eager to see what‘s next for this detective duo.

robinb So far book 3 has been my top pick of the series (5 ⭐️, other two were 4⭐️). I‘m really enjoying it more than I expected to which is always a nice surprise. 😊 2mo
Cbaldwinauthor Hi Sallie- I see you like YA Historical Fiction. I'm looking for readers/reviewers for my debut novel, Half-Truths.“A 15-year-old Southern girl from a farm in Tabor City, North Carolina, aspires to be a journalist to shed light on the social issues of 1950. While pursuing that dream, she covers dark secrets about her family‘s past after moving in with her grandparents in upscale Charlotte.“ Carol cbaldwin6@me.com if you're interested. Thanks.

Three years after reading book one I finally got around to reading this, the second book in the Redmond and Haze mystery series. Not so much a mystery but a police procedural story and a cosy one at that. It's an ideal book for a relaxing read while snuggled up on the sofa. In parts I found the story quite exciting but mainly it was just a pleasant, satisfying read that kept me entertained throughout. I really liked it.

(1861) Chronicles the evil career of Jabez North -- foundling, fraudster, murderer, genius -- and the efforts by one of his victims to bring Jabez to justice. It's very busy, depends on unlikely coincidences, takes unnecessary detours, then wraps abruptly in a crowded finale that tries to resolve all the loose subplots with handwavey exposition. And yet I liked it: for all its silliness it's also a lot of fun and the snappy writing kept me smiling

I don‘t suppose it rained harder in the good town of Slopperton-on-the-Sloshy than it rained anywhere else.
