Good. Set in Appalachia in the 1930s-40s. Coming of age story. Sad in parts, but not overwhelmingly depressing. Ends on a hopeful note (which makes sense because there is a series).

2020 #49. This is book 1 to the series. It made me love Becoming Clementine even more! I did audio book to this one and the narrator‘s voice is perfect.

I've read Jennifer Niven's more recent YA novels, so when I saw she had an older series I just had to read it. I was surprised and delighted by this historical fiction book and couldn't put it down! I'm going to try to track down the short movie she made that inspired this book!

I loved Jennifer Niven's All the Bright Places. This one bored me to tears. It's a historical fiction of sorts but I have too much to read and little time. It just wasn't worth continuing. So have a picture of my #cat and #readingbuddy #catsoflitsy #Freyja
