“To quote Helen Lewis the journalist, ‘the comments on any article about feminism justify feminism‘.”

Like an extended standup routine (there is lots and lots to laugh at here), Bridget Christie lures you in during the first half of the book with some of the less insidious aspects of inequality as she argues the case for feminism and then hits the reader with the most seriously damaging aspect of patriarchal dominance.
MY GOD I loved this book. Feminist, frank, funny. If you‘re going to bother, get the audiobook.
Note: I wouldn‘t recommend this if you don‘t already like her stand-up, as this is just an extended version of what she does on stage. Part memoir/part analysis/part observation, part hilarious/part sincere, part focused on ludicrous issues facing women/part focused on the worst issues.
“The columnist says his only wish is that feminist activist groups & leftie rapporteurs would just stop whinging because British women are among the most privileged liberated women in the world. They can vote, they‘re well educated, they have control over their own assets & bladders. But we only have these rights bc loads of women whinged & moaned for them in the first place.”
I‘m trying to learn how to Litsy! And for 2018 I‘ve just started the audiobook of Bridget Christie‘s Book For Her, which is basically, from what I can tell, about to be an 8 hour version of her comedy special. Feminist AND hilarious. My favorite combination!
Really enjoyable read. I found the going-off-on-tangents narration irritating at first, but hearing her being both witty and passionate about issues like FGM and rape culture is great.
Light reading needed after A Hope More Powerful Than The Sea.
