Scottish noir, and this one is definitely noir. Very grim but still the black humor is there front and center. I do enjoy the personal stories and admittedly inappropriate humor and byplay between the officers as they struggle to find answers and hold back their own horror.

#Roll100 @PuddleJumper Last Roll100 of the year!

Alison and Jenny McGregor‘s reality-TV dream has turned into a real-life nightmare when they‘re kidnapped. The ransom demand appears in all the papers, on TV, and internet. DS Logan McRae and his colleagues have nothing to go on: the kidnappers haven't left a single piece of forensic evidence. The investigation is going nowhere.

It looks as if the price of fame just got a lot higher…

Pickpick

I realised that the last time I read a logan macrae story was last easter but it won't be that long to get to the 8th book as they are so good combining humour with a lot of tension. Here an overnight celebrity mother and daughter are kidnapped, the Aberdeen police are on a countdown to find them whilst macrae deals with difficult bosses incl the brilliant di steele. Anyway i was on a crime spree book wise this weekend so another review to follow

Oh, how I‘ve missed you, DS McRae. Crime mystery/police procedurals seem to be my go-to comfort reads. Especially the Scottish ones for some reasons. I‘ve become particularly fond of the Logan McRae series. I only read about one a year, but I caught myself this time being pretty excited to get started. #guiltypleasures

cathysaid These are my comfort ("brain candy") reads as well. This is a new to me author. Thanks! UPDATE: First in the series is 1.99 on iBooks! (edited) 7y
Bookish.SAM Yeah @cathysaid I‘m pleased to make the introduction 😊 I‘m not sure how I got onto this series in the first place (as opposed to some of the more familiar ones) but it‘s kinda fun. Some gory cases but ridiculous characters and it doesn‘t take itself too seriously. (edited) 7y
cathysaid @Bookish.SAM Perfect escapism 👍 7y
PatriciaU I‘m a sucker for Scottish mysteries so I‘m eager to give this one a whirl. I just discovered Alex Gray‘s DI Lorimer series, which I really enjoyed. 7y
