April was a good month—27 books in total. Tagged book was an emotional gut punch & like Sunshine exemplifies the storytelling power & emotional complexity of graphic novels. Other favorites include lots of fantasy, including The Lost Dreamer (YA), Dark Water Daughter, & The Haunting of Tram Car 015, some science fiction, both Chambers books & Dark Force Rising (THRAWN!!!), and a phenomenal short story collection, Stateway‘s Garden.

When asked during his C2E2 panel, this was one of three comics Skottie Young recommend people read & wow, do I get it. In stunning black & white illustrations filled with movement and emotion, Pedrosa writes about a family whose son starts to see shadows that seem to follow him everywhere & try as they might, there is no escape for the family. A powerful story of love, loss, & grief as well as appreciating each & every moment. Excellent.

A touching, intriguing story about a man trying to save his son from the three shadows that have been watching them. The black and white illustrations seem to have their own sense of movement that helps propel the story. I loved it.
