3 posts | 4 read
Three Vikings set out on a daring quest in this thoughtful picture book that shines a light on teamwork and individuality by Ezra Jack Keats Honor-winning creator Adam Auerbach. Three Vikings were dreaming of Valhalla: an enchanted land full of possibility where only the strongest and bravest can enter. The littlest Viking is neither the strongest nor the bravest, though he is the most creative. Can a gentle, musical Viking really survive the treacherous road to Valhalla? This mythical tale celebrates teamwork, acceptance, the power of music, and the art of storytelling. Christy Ottaviano Books

Let the adventure begin! Three Little Vikings is a great RA book written and illustrated by Adam Auerbach.Three Little Viking set sail and discover they all have a talent except the littlest one.At the end of the journey the littlest Viking soon realizes his talent and everyone loved him for it. Although this is a NF book, kids can make text-to-self relationships. #ucflae3414su20

dbears1 UDL- Promote expectations and beliefs that optimizes motivation(9.1) and development self-assessment and reflection (9.3). ESOL Strategy-14. Simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant. This book can be read at a slower pace as there are few words and illustrations that can be reflected upon. Students can make there own ship to set sail.https://www.norhalla.com/products/little-vikings-adventures 4y
gpraytor The activity you picked for this book is a perfect pairing and sounds so fun! 4y
DrSpalding You had some genre confusion. This is definitely not non-fiction! This would be considered modern fantasy. You could add your wonderful readers theater as your resource. Ashley used it in her post! How cool is that? Another English learner strategy that would work is providing short readings for homework. Send these scripts home for students to practice. This will aid fluency. 4y

The Three Vikings, written and illustrated by Adam Auerbach, is a super cute MF children‘s picture book. Read about our three Vikings who long to be sent to Valhalla, and see, which one will really make it? #ucflae3414su20

ashleyshugars This would best serve as a RT! Check out this super cute RT script written by one of my classmates : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HznSwtXncpEqxjvl5vIbL9xJjpqAyDun6N8c98kEmJU/.... This would best go with ESOL strategy 17 and UDL strategy 5.1. (edited) 4y
Emmaturtle3 Hey Ashley! I so enjoyed participating in this RT in class and I loved that you added this to your list and even linked the resource from one of our classmates!! ESOL strategies #17 is a great fit due to the demonstrations, body language and facial expressions used when doing an RT! 4y
DrSpalding I love, love, love that you used your peers readers theater script in your post! Fabulous! The story was great and it worked nicely as a readers theater script that will enhance fluency. 4y

Adam Auerbach writes a cute story about one little Viking finding his purpose. This short story would make a great read aloud for young children of any age. Auerbach‘s story is beautifully illustrated to capture the engagement of young readers!
