What Happens in London
What Happens in London | Julia Quinn
13 posts | 39 read | 8 to read
Rumors and Gossip . . . The lifeblood of London When Olivia Bevelstoke is told that her new neighbor may have killed his fiance, she doesn't believe it for a second, but, still, how can she help spying on him, just to be sure? So she stakes out a spot near her bedroom window, cleverly concealed by curtains, watches, and waits . . . and discovers a most intriguing man, who is definitely up to something. Sir Harry Valentine works for the boring branch of the War Office, translating documents vital to national security. He's not a spy, but he's had all the training, and when a gorgeous blonde begins to watch him from her window, he is instantly suspicious. But just when he decides that she's nothing more than an annoyingly nosy debutante, he discovers that she might be engaged to a foreign prince, who might be plotting against England. And when Harry is roped into spying on Olivia, he discovers that he might be falling for her himself . . .

I enjoyed this book set in the world of the Bridgertons. The infamous Smythe-Smith musicale makes a cameo. I just wish my library had the other books in this series.

Book 2 for #awesomeApril

Julia Quinn‘s never disappoints me. Her writing is fun, a mixture of wit and sensuality with the occasional steamy scene thrown in. Her characters are perfectly flawed and easily likable. I have found her books to be delightful, charming and witty with a swoon worthy hero and heartwarming heroine. If you regency romance with a somewhat feminist take, you will love this.

While this is a second book in a series, it can be read as standalone.

Honestly, love romance and was kind of skeptical if I would like historical romance but it‘s not accurate which I did enjoy. Was easier to follow along and feel apart of the adventure. Shoutout to my momma for giving me something new to try.

Wasn't sure which of my books this best applied to... went with Harry and Olivia. What do you think?

I don't know what I'm excited about the most. The Octavia Butler book, the owl sticky note book, or my favorite romance author Julia Quinn. @JoRead did an excellent job. Thanks @BookishMarginalia for hosting #cupidgoespostal

I finally finished it. And it was painful. My one and only venture into romance and I can officially say they are not for me and I have no desire to read one ever again.

princess_dennie_pants I haven't been able to get into Julia Quinn. I just got this book today to try again. Have you tried Sarah MacLean, she's so good, or Tessa Dare. 7y
KtheBookwyrm @princess_dennie_pants I don't read romance. The whole love story aspect of a book doesn't really interest me-in fact it's one of the big reasons I don't read very much YA. 7y

There it is. One of those cheesy romance lines. And just a couple chapters ago she completely disliked him. Also, after a little private conversation with her eventual husband, the candles seem to be burning brighter and everyone looks so happy and beautiful! Be still my beating heart lolol

Although not as ridiculous as the last one, still. Their laughs struck a perfect chord? Ugh

If there are other such lines I can understand what my mom was talking about when she said it was funny lolol

I don't read romance novels so I can't say that I'm looking forward to reading this, although my mom and sister both swear it's hilarious. I'm only reading it in exchange for my mother reading max gladstone's three parts dead. Hoping for a quick read

Lauren_reading Julia Quinn is a great pick if you have to read a historical romance. She's one of my favs in that genre :) 8y
