I basically liked and enjoyed this book especially his delineation of what is necessary for the “art” of reading: curiosity, patience, courage, pride, temperance, justice. However, even though it was a short book, it was too drawn out, in my opinion. He could have said things more succinctly. He seemed to be taking himself and this subject much too seriously. An essay probably would have been sufficient. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The patient reader keeps well-stocked bookcases and lingers until the shelves are emptied and scattered by their estate.
Yep, sounds right. Just yesterday I was at the Apple Store waiting for an appointment and lamenting that I forgot my book at home.
"There is no one-size-fits-all discovery of literary power. Reading is thick with the quirks of era, family and psychology."
"…the virtues of reading are rarely celebrated. Reading well is treated as a rudimentary skill, not a lifelong ambition; not a creative talent to tenaciously enrich and enhance." This book is easily one of my fave 2016 releases, and I'll be hearing the author chat about it tonight. I can't wait!
