Kovac and Liska take on multiple twisted cases as #1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag explores a murder from the past, a murder from the present, and a life that was never meant to be. As the dreary, bitter weather of late fall descends on Minneapolis, Detective Nikki Liska is restless, already bored with her new assignment to the cold case squad. She misses the rush of pulling an all-nighter and the sense of urgency of hunting a desperate killer on the loose. Most of all she misses her old partner, Sam Kovac. Kovac is having an even harder time adjusting to Liskas absence, saddled with a green new partner younger than most of Sam's wardrobe. But Kovac is distracted from his troubles by an especially brutal double homicide: a prominent university professor and his wife, bludgeoned and hacked to death in their home with a ceremonial Japanese samurai sword. Liskas case-the unsolved murder of a decorated sex crimes detective-is less of a distraction: Twenty five years later, there is little hope for finding the killer who got away. Meanwhile, Minneapolis resident Evi Burke has a life she only dreamed of as a kid in and out of foster homes: a beautiful home, a family, people who love her, a fulfilling job. But a danger from her past is stalking her idyllic present. A danger bent on destroying the perfect life she was never meant to have. As the trails of two crimes a quarter of century apart twist and cross, Kovac and Liska race to find answers before a killer strikes again.

Finished this on an early SAN Franciscan morning. I‘ve not read one of her books before. I did not enjoy her graphic descriptions of crime scenes. So I might not read her again. However as far as plot goes , very clever I thought. I also enjoyed her strong female characters. @MrsMalaprop

So much suspense! This is a fantastic thriller. It was my first Tami Hoag, but it won't be my last. Thank you for introducing me to her @ReadingOver50

Ahhh another Tami Hoag book that hasn't let me down. It's not always about the story it's the characters that you just really get to know in her books.

So please tell me how /where is the best way to do audio books? I have a 7plus so I assume plenty of storage for some books however I am a book hoarder .. I love having an actual paper book in my hands .....admission is the 1st step ... right? Lol) #ebooks. So any suggestions on where
the best place to start would be awesome . I'm not sure if I can do it but I might try a few and see if I can make the change

DogMomIrene I'm pretty thrifty, so I started audiobooks with my library. Many public libraries use Overdrive, which is an easy-to-use free app. You just connect your library account to the Overdrive account and you can start searching. 8y
8little_paws I get mine though Hoopla digital, from the library. I listen at 1.25 or 1.5 speed. I think the best thing to listen to is a memoir read by the author. I listen when I drive, when I cook and clean, and sometimes while I knit. 8y
merelybookish Check to see if your local library uses Overdrive, Hoopla, or Axis360 or some other platform. You can download the app, sign in with your library account, and then borrow audiobooks from a pretty wide selection. That's how I do all my audiobook listening. 8y

DogMomIrene Oh, after I realized that I liked listening to audiobooks, I did sign up for Audible...you can try free for 30 days. And at another point I signed up for Audiobooks.com for their free trial. Both services are solid. Ultimately, I stopped paying for subscriptions because I had more audiobooks than I was listening to, so I decided I had to catch up before I accumulated more 8y
stacybmartin I love getting mine through my local library on OverDrive (anything free is fantastic!) and I also pay a monthly fee for Scribd (you get 3 ebook credits and 1 audiobook credits per month). I tend to listen to my books at the highest possible speeds (2X on OverDrive and 1.5X on Scribd). Just go slowly up on the increments so your ears can adjust. I get through so many books with my two hour commute and a job in a lab. Good luck!! 8y
josie281 My library has Overdrive and Hoopla and I pay for Audible as well 8y
Megabooks Pretty much the same as what @josie281 said. If you need help figuring any of it out email me at meglwsn at gmail.com 8y
NatalieR I use Overdrive and Audible. ❤️ both!! 8y
auntie_jenn i use audible, but i delete them off my phone when i'm done for the space. you can re-download any time. 8y

Tami Hoag's books are always well structured and a delight to read. Every time I read one of her books, I think that I should buy all her books because I enjoy them so much. I'm always seeing them and picking them up, out of series order. I still enjoy the stories. I loved the crossover between the two main characters and how they grew by being partnered with new characters. The ending was very gory, but, at least, there was no guns involved.

I read all over the map and today I started The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag ( I guess it is #5 in a series? but I didn't know that when I ordered from the library) it's detective fiction or crime fiction, psychological thriller? I have forgotten where I read about this one 🙄

StellaDz The Bitter Season is book 5 starring particular characters, Kovac and Liska. Most of their books are standalone, except for The 9th Girl and Cold, Cold, Heart, which should be read together and in the order. 8y
StellaDz There is character progression and development throughout the five, but the cases are, for the majority, standalone stories. 8y
mcctrish Thx @StellaDz I am going to have to go back in time now 8y
StellaDz @mcctrish it's so worth it! 😉 8y
