How can you be alienated without first having been connected?

A book with a number in its title for #somethingforsept! I read Barthelme's short story "The School" in a high school fiction writing class, and immediately fell in love (nearly everyone else in the class hated it, much to my bewilderment!). I happened upon this beat-up copy of his collected short stories at a yard sale just a few weeks later. #bookishserendipity
