#readingoceania2024 #antartica I selected this for my Antarctica reading as it has some amazing black and white photographs taken during Shackleton‘s failed expedition to the South Pole by photographer Frank Hurley. Shackleton‘s story of amazing leadership and perseverance comes alive in all its brutal cold conditions in the photographs. The book, sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History, is also fairly well written.

I have the best #litsypenpal ever. Whisky glass engraved with a Shackleton quote: "I would make a first class drunkard if I had not some strength of will." Perfect for a pour of my Rare Highland Malt Mackinlay blend. @HotMessJess is the BEST! She knows me well!

I'm going to repost an image from last summer when I read this book about Shackleton's voyage with the Endurance as a combination post for today's photo challenges. The #weather and ice made their Antarctic expedition #impossible, yet they were amazingly able to survive and all make it back alive. I really enjoyed this book with photos included, but I also hope to read the book by Lansing at some point as well.

The story of the survival of the crew of The Endurance when the ship became trapped in the ice around Antarctica and sank is a fascinating #nonfiction cold weather adventure. Plus this book contains many photographs taken during the expedition. #FunFridayPhoto

This was a really interesting book about the crew of the Endurance and their survival. It told of the events in clear detail using several diaries of the men, Shackleton's own book, and photographs from the expedition. The photos with the photographer's own captions were a wonderful addition.

Final moments of The Endurance - I've picked up bits and pieces of this story over the years, but the details of this book are fascinating!

I haven't had much time to read lately, but when I get the chance I'm really enjoying this. The photos are a wonderful addition to the description of the expedition.
