Interesting history of the deadliest hurricane in history, it hit Galveston TX. It‘s incredible to see how far weather prediction has come and how much there was to learn and understand something as “simple” as the wind.
Larson has a great way of telling the history and making it feel like a story. Excellent research involved I‘m sure.
Snow and icicles on Hilton Head Island, SC! This NEVER happens. Time for books and hot beverages all day long. ❄️❄️❄️

It was a snowy day yesterday in MD, got got about 8 inches. My kids had fun sledding & I took a walk with my eldest on the hiking trails through our neighborhood (he wanted to look for birds, he is in the birdwatching club at his college). Overall a good day & tried to do some reading with a cup of hot cocoa. Today, school has been canceled again but it‘s too windy & cold to do much.
Charles Hatfield traveled the country in the early 1900s promising to make it rain, taking $1000s from farmers & others. When he promised San Diego to fill their reservoirs for $10k, a burst dam nearly destroyed the entire city. The city then balked at paying the sum, suggesting god did it.
🌦️ Pseudo science, scam, or “the butterfly effect” - in any case an entertaining novelistic piece of history!

We took the dogs for a walk in the park tonight so of course I had to bring my current read along for a little photo session. Bombadil thought the best view of the sunset was in front of my camera. 😂
