This is a practical book full of urban homestead projects and an inspiration for us city dwellers.

It's well written with lots of diagrams and it's such an easy read in general due to the layout.

I've been reading these types of books for many years now and there's always something new to learn in each book, so this was worthwhile.

It's always good to brush up on your knowledge anyway and this particular book was fun.

Urban homesteading isn‘t an easy lifestyle. And we are all about growing our own veggies and preserving stuff and making our own…cause it‘s good for us and the environment. We never thought we would get poultry. I don‘t eat meat or eggs and we rent so it wasn‘t on the cards, but then a male quail was in urgent need of a loving home so we took him in without a moments hesitation. And learned male quails need company…(continued in comments)

Darklunarose And several females not just one…and no males cause males will kill each other. So we got three little girls. Sunday morning one of the girls looked like she was missing her eye so expensive trip to the emergency vet. She still has her eye but needs medication and pain relief. Poor baby. So Missy here is staying inside with us now. Till healed. Ugh. Turns out our girl Isla is a boy 🤦🏼‍♀️ who didn‘t crow for weeks till now🤦🏼‍♀️ 3y

wanderinglynn I don‘t know where you live but I would recommend checking your city/town‘s ordinances to make sure that you can have poultry/game birds on your property without a permit/license. Many municipalities prohibit fowl/poultry/game birds within city limits or require a license or permit. And since you‘re renting, I‘d recommend double checking the terms of your lease too. 3y
Darklunarose @wanderinglynn council is fine:) no restrictions. Land lord is in love and land agent used to have them herself. Our land lord is amazing. He has let us basically start garden beds all over and last time he was here walked in the back yard and said “you know you can dig all this up for growing too! Land agen is sweet. It‘s a big agency but she used to have quails and all sorts. Now has ducks and the greenest grass in the state she says. 3y
wanderinglynn That‘s awesome! 3y

Sunrise, my favourite time of day. Especially when the house is still asleep and all is quiet.
