I liked Smucker‘s book and I think that if you enter in with the right expectations, you might enjoy it more than I did.

Cohen Marah clears his throat quietly, more out of discomfort than the presence of any particular thing that needs clearing, and attempts to step over the body for a second time. His heel no more than lightens its weight on the earth before he puts his foot back down and sighs.

Very slow, and it started out feeling like domestic fiction, only for it to turn out to be something closer to magical realism.
There was also a character in it who didn't need to be there, contributed nothing to the plot. It goes back and forth between past and present, but feeling like it was about two different characters. By the time the two timelines meet up, the book is nearly finished

I won it as an ARC from LibraryThing, and I am not really sure what to say about it, but I have to review it because that's the deal.
It's not a terrible book, I just don't really have much to say about it (so far).

I got book mail today. I won Light From Distant Stars by Shawn Smucker through LibraryThing. I'm excited because I loved his other book, The Day the Angels Fell.
