Interconnected short stories set in an idyllic-seeming valley, with Steinbeck‘s signature insights into human nature, and observations of the natural world. I thoroughly enjoyed them. #authoramonth @Soubhiville
Began this over lunch for #authoramonth I‘ve read a lot of Steinbeck, but this early set of connected short stories is new to me. @Soubhiville

As always, John Steinbeck is a wonderful writer, and his descriptions of the setting and the characters are wonderful. He's one of my favorite authors. This is about several families who live in The Pastures of Heaven, a valley in California outside of Monterey, and how their lives affect one another.
I‘ve read a few books in which the main character of the book is the scenery. The Pastures of Heaven is definitely one of them. It‘s a collection of short stories, all interwoven, taking place in a beautiful valley near Salinas and Monterey, California, where Steinbeck called home. Land, it‘s such a mystery, especially the way we humans interact with it.
