My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary
My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary | Rae Earl
It's 1989 and Rae is a fat, boy-mad 17-year-old, living in Stamford, Lincolnshire with her mum and their deaf white cat in a council house with a mint off-green bath suite and a larder Rae can't keep away from. This is the hilarious and touching real-life diary she kept during that fateful year.

This is my fat, mad teenage diary, volume 1 -1989.

I hadn‘t heard of this, but we went to a live Hard Quiz show and Rae was one of the contestants. Very funny woman who lives locally. Curious so I borrowed from the library.

Today was a #FML day at work- utterly and completely ridiculous. So tonight @toddred29 and I went out for HuHot, antiquing and Half Price Books. I picked up the Hornby book for $2 on clearance and I keep hearing about the tagged book from my clients. Amazing how $10 in used books (and a fluffy #catsoflitsy chin) makes up for the damage a day can do! Welcome, Dear Weekend!

BethM I hope you have a wonderful restful weekend! 5y
readordierachel Your kitty looks very pleased with your choices 😋 5y

Delightful, humourous, honest, and sometimes heartbreaking. I really enjoyed this book and have heard it is a TV show as well that I would love to check out since I absolutely adore British telly. My only complaint is that it was a bit long, I felt some of the entries could've been omitted. All-in-all, a super fun read, and I can't wait for the next one.

4/100 My Mad, Fat Diary by Rae Earl DNF'd @ page 152.

I'm sad I had to DNF this book after hearing so many good things about it. I pushed myself to keep reading this, but I just couldn't get into it, and I didn't find myself connecting to any of the characters.

Unfortunately, this does mean that I won't be reading the second book in this series.

BookNerdBritt I haven't read the book, but I LOVE the show. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet! 8y

The bloody Dairy Book of Home Cookery was by my bed. I have just been using it to lean on, as the diary is as flimsy as anything, but it must have looked like I read rice-pudding recipes to go to sleep. I don't, by the way. It just looked like such a cliche - fat girl reads food as well as eats it.

This has been on my list for a while and somehow it just feels right (for me) for the upcoming holiday. Dare I say, this is another book set in the 1980's (it's okay I love it!), this time in a small town in Lincolnshire England. I'm on page 19 so far and while I'm enjoying it, I realized I have to keep my notebook or phone nearby (I suppose I usually do) to look up some of these British slang words and phrases to get the full comedic experience.

Describe yourself in three fictional characters. I couldn't narrow it down to 3 but this was super fun. #describeyourselfin3fictionalcharacters

⭐️⭐️1/2. A real look into a teenagers mind, no holding back. Sadly, that's why the whole book repeats itself again and again. Maybe if I was in a different mindset I'd of liked it better.

4🌟This book is hilarious and quotable. I enjoyed remembering this time in my life even though I wasn't fat then. I was boy-crazy, too lol! My only complaint is that it's a bit repetitive. Some parts I skimmed until I hit something funny or profound, and then I slowed down. Will watch show on Hulu!

Starting this and hoping it's funny!

Alice & Oliver has me so angry right now, I gave it 1🌟 on Goodreads. Reflecting before I write a review here or on my blog. 😤

Thought I'd share this pretty flower from my mom's garden to make it all better!

Ah! Love the honesty of this memoir- if only it didn't hit so close to home. This definitely makes me NOT miss the insecurity, anxiety and lack of self esteem experienced in adolescence. Thank goodness I survived those years 😂 looking forward to watching the series on HULU!

So many "So glad I'm not a lesbian" and "I am not a lesbian" lines in this! Lmao What's wrong with being a lesbian?!?!?!?! ?????

Lupita.Reads 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴 9y
Megabooks I've wanted to read this. I don't have anything against lesbians, of course. Is the book bigoted or just exaggerated? 9y
Lupita.Reads @Ebooksandcooks definitely just exaggerated, I just find it amusing how often a 17 year old teen worries about being or ending up a lesbian because of lack of boys interested in her 😂 9y

Megabooks Teens ALWAYS find random things to worry about!! Lol! 😱😂 9y
Megabooks No problem! 😃 9y
Tikabelle As a teen I worried about EVERYTHING. Being a virgin. Then not being a virgin. Being cool, not being cool... whether I'd get high on LSD from touching a railing (it was the early 90s and that was The Big Scare). Man. That was the WORST. 9y
Tikabelle Also, never did get high. Lame. 9y
