Excellent. A disturbing story of citizens forced into a concentration camp for reality tv. Both the camp & the public seeing it as entertainment are horrifying. But Nothomb has a wonderful dry wit & draws strong, memorable characters. Moving tension between guard Zdena & Pannonique, the viewers‘ favourite prisoner. Explores loss of identity, how low we will go for ‘entertainment‘, apathy & the mob mentality. A great novella. #passportlitsy
One of my reading spots from last weekend - a magical stay at Kangaroo Island. Sulphuric Acid was excellent - review to follow! 😎 #Belgium #PassportLitsy
What a freaking book! It's about a reality show recreating a concentration camp. It is so absurd that it makes you question everything. First thing that takes you off guard is that the prisoners are randomly chosen and abducted while the guard aplied regularly...
While reading I asked myself so many questions. Mostly why the major popularity don't put an end to it.
So worth reading and questioning that I rate this book with 5 out of 5 stars
Playing catchup for #aprilbookshowers 👍🏼 Nothomb has been writing a book every year for the past 24 years (2017 will make 25) and has been translated into almost 40 languages. #womenintranslation
I love reading in the rain ⛈ and I'm enjoying this so far. This is the translated version, but the language manages to be both plain and kind of beautiful. I want to read the original French version eventually.
