For fans of the Bridgerton adaptation on Netflix, they're going a little out of order. Which means Benedict/Sophie fans are going to have to wait a little longer, because Penelope and Colin are about to have their moment! Yay!

In the wake of COVID, a new and very different kind of pandemic has begun to spread... one where unsuspecting carriers of the virus suddenly and violently attack anyone who happens to be close at the time. Chelsea seizes the opportunity to escape her abusive husband, and the roller coaster journey that she and her daughters then find themselves on is wild. I very much enjoyed the character development, overall originality, and timely subtext! 4⭐️
After 9 years, it's my last full week living in NYC 😱
I've been cool as a cucumber for the most part, but it's starting to hit me a little bit 😢
Do yourself a favor and watch this show on Netflix! (Based on this graphic novel of the same name). When I tell you my whole heart was a puddle of mush 🥺
I'm looking forward to this #BOTM box! 👏🏽
May #BOTM picks!
I love it when people who are spring cleaning leave boxes of free books on their stoop for people to grab. I've seen mixed reviews on this one but why pass up a free book?! 👏🏽
Well you can add me to the long list of folks who found this book completely enchanting! Funny, original, observant, sharp. Absolutely loved it 👩🏼🔬
4.5⭐️ #BOTM (ps: made for the perfect Sunday binge read with my girl 😻)
Ooh, this was fantastic!! The sole survivor of a serial rapist and murderer writes a true crime memoir about the case, in the hopes that it might stir up some new leads and finally lead to his identity and capture. Meanwhile, the very man they're looking for is reading the book... and thinking about tying up loose ends 😱
I was HOOKED. Super clever and captivating in a way that not a lot of thrillers are these days! 👏🏽
Sign me up! Litsy Summer Camp 😂
🏕🔥📚
This book is so much fun! It's certainly not probable (almost in the vein of a slapstick Melissa McCarthy-style action/comedy movie). Mistaken identity meets murder for hire with a comedic twist. My advice would be to just suspend disbelief and enjoy 😂
Five students walk into detention and only four walk out alive, making them the obvious suspects. And since all of them had secrets they didn't want exposed, the police see motive for any of them to be involved. I enjoyed this quick, pulpy whodunnit. And the twist was a good one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our first May #BOTM teaser/spoiler! This sounds pretty good, I'm intrigued by the "Mexican Gothic meets Rebecca" description.
I absolutely inhaled this book and was completely riveted from the first page to the last. 4.5⭐️
This was good! It felt like more of a character study of the various women who work at this strip club than a "thriller", solving the crime itself had a much slower burn. I had a hunch about whodunnit that turned out to be correct, but it didn't make the read less interesting. Choosing to set the story in 1999 felt random though, aside from the occasional pop culture reference it didn't seem to serve the plot in any relevant way. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Reading this book felt like a long awaited visit with old friends (plus an opportunity to gaze longingly at my forever book husband, but I digress). An ill-timed library hold forced my hand with this 900-page bohemoth, but once I got back into the rhythm of Fraser's Ridge it somehow still didn't feel long enough. I hope I don't have to wait another 7 years for book 10 😩
Francesca is the Bridgerton sibling that you know the least about going in. Her story is alluded to in previous books, but she was never around. I enjoyed finally seeing her story play out, but didn't necessarily love some of the tactics that Michael used to get her to marry him. They definitely had chemistry, but it felt more manipulative than romantic at times.
I thought I'd switch things up but this was not my personal cup of tea. Reads like an action movie, with the fairly typical macho character that goes from improbable scenario to improbable scenario like he's made of Teflon. Lots of gunfire, few surprises. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I guess it's finally time to read my copy of Ninth House that's been sitting on the shelf for far too long 🐇
After being in NYC for almost 9 (!!!) years, I just want to be closer to my family on a regular basis. So in a crazy unexpected twist of a next chapter for me, I'm in the process of building a home in Eastern Tennessee (on a plot of land near my mom) and am planning to move down this summer. It'll be an adjustment for sure, but I'm ready to slow things down, have some peace and quiet, and see the stars at night.
Any TN littens out there? 😆
I'm excited about this LGBT rom com Goodreads win! 👏🏽 (my mass giveaways entry spree is paying off!)
The ballet bits were amazing but the plot itself was too disjointed. Not bad, but not overly memorable either. That cover is gorgeous though! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
#BOTM picks are live! My gut reaction when I first saw the picks was to skip, but the more I thought about True Biz the more intrigued I was 😄
April #BOTM picks, ya'll! One of them, Lessons in Chemistry and Bomb Shelter, the memoir from my previous post, appear to be add-ons 😄
Personally, it might be a skip unless there are some compelling additional add-ons added to the mix 😬
This was a solid courtroom drama! The town's golden girl and rising star is murdered and her boyfriend, the football star with a troubled past, is the prime suspect. When defense attorney Bo Haynes takes on the case, the entire town is salty about him being on "the wrong side", even though Bo is firmly convinced of his innocence. My only problem is that I didn't realize it was the second in a series when I impulsively grabbed it at the library ?
A solid, quick page-turner. The hostage situation was pretty terrifying, though parts of the twist and conclusion weren't exactly shocking. An entertaining read though! 3.5⭐️
On the whole, I was entertained. But I spent most of the book wanting to slap some sense into Mia as she made one asinine judgement call after another, and that took some of the enjoyment out of it. But on the other hand, the plot kind of hinged on those asinine choices so 🤷🏽♀️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
ERMAHGERD, how did I not know this was turned into a movie?! 😱
Always feels good to stumble on a Goodreads win email! Where the Forest Meets the Stars was pretty good, so hopefully this will be too.
Our first #BOTM hint/spoiler for April! Not my personal cup of tea, but looks interesting if you're into mythology.
I love it when an impulse library pick pans out! This was wild. Pretty grim and far fetched, but the middle twist caught me completely off guard and I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, this was good! After a bit of a slow start I was skeptical, but it quickly gained a lot of steam and then never let up. Way better than The Guest List! 👏🏽
I absolutely loved this! It had everything that appeals to me in a family drama, a full cast of likeable (but imperfect) characters, complicated family dynamics, and secrets long held. I inhaled it with a quickness. Actually kinda bummed that it wasn't on my radar when it was a #BOTM pick 🍀
One of the biggest perks of working from home is that when things are slow I can get away with reading on the clock, and today was a win/win because it felt like I started my weekend with a bang 😆. I was almost surprised by how much I enjoyed this twisty ride! One of the better thrillers that #BOTM has picked in recent memory, and definitely this duo's best collaboration yet imo! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A bit disappointing, unfortunately. I wish more time had been spent actually showing Greta and her dad heal their relationship. For a book about a woman that goes on a cruise with her dad after her mother's passing, they spend a shockingly little amount of time together. I'd say borrowing this was definitely the right call, I'm glad I didn't end up adding it to my #BOTM box. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
(It did, however, make me nostalgic for cruising 🛳)
I'll admit, I was primarily drawn to the cover when I picked this one up. I went in completely blind and for a minute there I wasn't sure if I was into it. I worked out bits and pieces, but it also took some unexpected turns that were done in a way that made me feel like I should have seen it all coming, which are the twists I usually appreciate most. Overall an entertaining read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘m conflicted on this one. Pretty different from most of Jewell's other books in the sense that we're not solving a crime or figuring out whodunnit. Melody has no memories from her early childhood, everything before the age of 9 is completely blank. Until a chance encounter with a hypnotist sets in motion the trickling release of her repressed memories, who she really is, and what she experienced as a kid. It mostly just made me sad ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, this was good! The Pine family has had a tough go of it. Matt just found out that nearly his whole family has died in Mexico from an apparent gas leak. Meanwhile his older brother is incarcerated for the murder of his high school girlfriend, a crime made famous by a viral true crime documentary proclaiming his innocence. But what actually happened? And did the rest of the Pines meet foul play themselves? I was hooked! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Super duper stinking cute 🥰 / 4.5⭐️
I enjoyed this quite a bit! I don't generally go out of my way to pick up books with supernatural elements, but St. James' books always seem to hit the spot. #BOTM ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm still not entirely convinced that Phillip is good enough for Eloise, but as long as she's happy I suppose I'll have to allow it 😆 3.5⭐️
I very much enjoyed this! A lot of moving parts, but the multiple perspectives and smooth writing made for a real page-turner. Plenty of red herrings to keep you on your toes! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
While browsing shows/movies on the plane this weekend, I stumbled on American Rust on Showtime and got HOOKED.
After a while I started to figure it had to be based on a book, and what do you know 🤦🏽♀️. But I'm too invested in the show to stop now 😆
My dad moved to Albuquerque right before COVID, and I finally had the chance to visit! My first time in New Mexico and I can see why he loves it. So beautiful. I'm really hoping I can make it back for the hot air balloon festival!
(PS: before visiting my only frame of reference was Breaking Bad, so my dad took me around to some of the locations and memorabilia spots. Hence the Walter White missing poster 😂)
Pretty good! I wasn't totally engaged the whole way through (but that could have also been because I was distracted while traveling, etc.). There were some twists I didn't see coming, so overall a solid mystery (though honestly parts of the "romance" felt a bit misplaced).
