pickI read this novel-in-verse for the children‘s book club I run.
It‘s made up of journal entries, assigned to a fifth-grade class by their hippie English teacher. Their school‘s in danger of being torn-down to make way for a supermarket & she sees that they might need a creative outlet for their feelings. This conceit allows the author to develop a whole cast of characters in not-so-many words, & play with form in a kid-friendly, accessible way. 🤗

The eighteen students write poems (which will go in a time capsule) documenting their year and their attempt to save their school. Filled with diversity, the poems capture the spirit of the children. Such a delightful, original book for children and adults alike!
