A Mad, Wicked Folly
A Mad, Wicked Folly | Sharon Biggs Waller
Welcome to the world of the fabulously wealthy in London, 1909, where dresses and houses are overwhelmingly opulent, social class means everything, and women are taught to be nothing more than wives and mothers. Into this world comes seventeen-year-old Victoria Darling, who wants only to be an artista nearly impossible dream for a girl. After Vicky poses nude for her illicit art class, she is expelled from her French finishing school. Shamed and scandalized, her parents try to marry her off to the wealthy Edmund Carrick-Humphrey. But Vicky has other things on her mind: her clandestine application to the Royal College of Art; her participation in the suffragette movement; and her growing attraction to a working-class boy who may be her museor may be the love of her life. As the world of debutante balls, corsets, and high society obligations closes in around her, Vicky must figure out: just how much is she willing to sacrifice to pursue her dreams?

now I'm not totally sure why the book has the content and characters that it does...and the publisher gave it these covers. Strong girl fighting against the roadblocks sexist society have put in her way while joining the suffragettes and working on her art career
Publisher: put a white girl in a dress without a face
I loved the main characters and the romance. I loved her passion and maneuvering at each road block.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag It‘s such a disappointment when the cover doesn‘t fit the story - sounds like the publisher could have done a lot better. 4y

This book was so educational and I loved the spirit of it! It reminded me in bits of my own past and for my own courage and I love it for it. Just wished I had gotten some closure on the romance (romantic at heart!)

Why yes, I will take a book entirely devoted to trampling the patriarchy.

I'm usually a straight-up YA reader. It got this audiobook for free at a conference and it was amazing! Just when I started to hate the main character for being whiny or stupid, she would do or say something that made her actions reasonable. The author did a great job with multiple perspectives. ❤️

This one is rough going so far; despite some strong positives I'm not sure I'm gonna stick it out.
