The Best of Times
The Best of Times: A Novel | Penny Vincenzi
8 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
Everything can change in the blink of an eye. . . On an ordinary London afternoon, a truck swerves across five lanes of traffic and creates a tangle of chaos and confusion. As loved ones wait to hear news and the hospital prepares to receive the injured, a dozen lives hang in the balance. A doctor is torn between helping the injured and hiding his young mistress; a bridegroom hopes to get to the church on time; a widow waiting to reunite with a lost love ponders whether shell ever see him again; and the mysterious hitchhiker, the only person who knows what really happened, is nowhere to be found. Filled with suspense, romance, and more twists than a country highway, The Best of Times proves once again why Penny Vincenzi is the queen of happy endings. From the Trade Paperback edition.

On a regular day on a busy highway outside London, a truck swerves across five lanes of traffic and causes a massive multi-vehicle accident. The narrative then follows the lives of several characters who were affected by the crash. An easy read with a narrative that kept me moving.

Even at just under 600 pages, this was a quick read. It's not perfect, all of the characters are a little too gorgeous and much of the story is somewhat fluffy, but I still enjoyed it. Happy to tick another off my #LitsyAtoZ and #MountTBR

I started reading this a few evenings ago. There are a LOT of characters! And by around 25 pages in I was considering bailing, annoyed with trying to keep up with who was who and why each one mattered, and also that almost every one of them was described as incredibly good looking and perfectly fit.
Then yesterday I read 350 pages of it! The story took off, and I started liking some of the characters a lot. Glad I didn't bail!

I most often read on the couch, reclined, with several books in case my mood changes, and one or several of the fur kids. #howyouread #Froedrick #riotgrams #hpchapteraday

#riotgrams #authorwhosharesyourname Penny Vincenzi. Have never read any of her books! 🙂 Not an overly common name - I was, seriously, named after my older sister's favourite doll and because I was born with brown eyes - the only girl in our family to have them. (My mom had Natalie picked out - I don't think that's me at all!) 😁

MeganAnn For a main character named Penny I really enjoyed this series. Your post made me think of it again as its been a few years since I read it. 😊 8y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @MeganAnn oh that sounds quite lovely! I'll have to add it to the stack. 8y
