Careless Love: DCI Banks 25 | PETER. ROBINSON
post image

#RedRoseSeptember #Day3 #TubThumping Playing catch-up already, I‘m really awful at challenges lately! Quite a bit of the DCI Banks novels take place in pubs or drinking at home, particularly Banks & his whiskey obsession, though he‘s also partial to a good wine or boutique beer. I think most cop based books have more than their share of drinking scenes, you‘d think that all police have alcohol problems!🍷🍺🥃🍹

arlenefinnigan Good choice! 5y
MicheleinPhilly I‘ve not read these but we just finished watching the series. Loved it! 5y
Cinfhen Is this on Netflix @MicheleinPhilly ?? Glad you‘re participating this month, Liz!! Just pop in whenever you‘re up to it ❤️ 5y
MicheleinPhilly @Cinfhen No, it‘s on Amazon Prime. 5y

In all my years of singing #Tubthumping loudly & off-key whenever it played on the radio, I never looked up the definition. After learning it means “expressing opinions in a loud and violent or dramatic manner” I just couldn‘t help thinking of Lady Catherine de Bourgh who had not only her share but many others‘ share in the conversation. She definitely did plenty of tubthumping! 😆

julesG 👏😁 5y
Cinfhen Nice 👍🏽 love singing this song too 😎 5y
arlenefinnigan Excellent 😊 (still haven't read this 🤭) 5y
gradcat I‘m so glad someone gave the definition for this word...I (rather stupidly, imho) thought it was simply a made-up word, kind of like Chumbawamba, but there are several urban dictionary definitions for this word as well! 🙃 5y

#Flowers and so much more at the gardens at Dumbarton Oaks and Tudor Place on my last day here in DC. Walked through Book Hill Park to get from one to the other. Even managed to get in 29,000 steps for #SelfImprovementSept @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620 Also, a #RedRoseSeptember though no #tubthumping. There was a pretty cool bathroom in the Tudor house, but they wouldn't let us touch anything. 😉 @Cinfhen @arlenefinnigan

Cinfhen Lovely 😊 looks like you had a wonderful day 5y

People who bicycle for fun and professional cyclists often 🎶 “get knocked down, but get up again.” 🎶 This book which got a short write up in the nyt is about how doping became so ingrained in competitive cycling. #tubthumping #wentwiththelyric #redroseseptember @arlenefinnigan @Cinfhen

CarolynM 👏👏👏 5y
Cinfhen Both of those books sound interesting ~ thanks for sharing ❣️ 5y
arlenefinnigan Sounds interesting - my husband read Racing Through The Dark by David Millar last year, it's disturbing just how widespread it was. 5y

This looks like pure Heaven to me. Who else would choose a bathtub and a good book over just about anything else? #tubthumping #RedRoseSeptember
@Cinfhen @arlenefinnigan

Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola gets my vote!!!!!! 🤣 5y
arlenefinnigan I can't be doing with baths, it's just stewing in your own filth 😉 5y
gradcat @arlenefinnigan Omigod—my poor, dearly departed aunt used to constantly say that—you brought back great memories for me! 😉 5y
Andrea313 @arlenefinnigan Haha, you are not the only person who has said that to me! I get your point, bit will still love a good bath forever. 😂 5y

Day 3 I had no idea what this phrase meant. I looked it up and one site said "something the Irish did when rebelling against England ", so that made me think of this book I read many years ago, a great great book.

Cinfhen This sounds interesting 🤓 5y
arlenefinnigan ✊🇮🇪 5y
gradcat @Crazeedi I didn‘t know what it meant either (see my post—nothing to do with the correct meaning!). 🤣 5y

While I recall the Chumbawamba song I had to look up the meaning of #tubthumping . Urban dictionary says it is what the Irish did as part of their revolt under English rule...so free association brings me to this nonfiction title about Northern Ireland that I want to read...maybe for Nonfiction November?🤔
#RedroseSeptember

arlenefinnigan Got this lined up on audio. Sounds like it's gonna be a tough, but important, read. 5y
Ruthiella @arlenefinnigan Yup! I will have to prepare mentally before tackling. 5y
Cinfhen I was just thinking I‘d like to try this book on audio 5y

Ruthiella My library only has the hard copy but that‘s OK! I listen to so many podcasts, I often have trouble squeezing audio books in. 5y
gradcat @Ruthiella I read this book very recently...it‘s really, really interesting, & a great primer for the “Troubles” In Ireland, if you‘re not up on the history. ♥️ 5y
Ruthiella @gradcat Good to hear! I am hoping to learn a lot. It feels like it will be a good nonfiction complement to Milkman by Anna Burns. 5y
gradcat I really think I have to read that one as well.... 5y

(Day 3 - #Tubthumping)

*The word “tubthumping” made me think of grape stomping (my mind makes crazy connections!). This book for children (ages 4-8) features a young six-toed boy named Sixto (natch!) Poblano, whose six toes are perfect for stomping (NB, the final product is grape juice—not wine.) Hailing fron the “semicircular village of Ear,” Sixto would rather be playing ball. He will get his way, come hell or “high juice.”

gradcat @arlenefinnigan Thank you! 😉 5y
Cinfhen Love baby feet 🦶 💜and book sound adorable 5y
