Page 10:
'I'm not a religious believer, yet despite that I go to church. I love the architecture, the music, the words of the Bible, and the sense of sharing something profound with other people. I have long found deep spiritual peace in the great cathedrals, as do many millions of people, believers and nonbelievers alike.'

A great, short history of Notre Dame- built on the site of a Roman Temple to Jupiter. Notre Dame was the 5th church built on that site.

All proceeds of this book go towards the restoration of Our Lady. 💖 ⛪️ 💖

It‘s hard to believe that it‘s been a little over 2 years since the devastating fire at Notre Dame. Whether you‘ve visited this monument or not, it was heartbreaking to witness. This book was written as an homage to the great cathedral soon after the fire. And all proceeds are being donated to reconstruction efforts. I found the history quite interesting and it wasn‘t drawn out. Absorbing and succinct. 4/5⭐️

MemoirsForMe Oh, I remember that incredibly sad day. Just heartbreaking. Glad to hear about this book and the efforts to raise money for restorations. 🙌🏻 4y
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme It was so sad and surreal. I remember feeling shocked by this event and not wanting to believe it was true. The restoration is well underway which is great news! 4y

I was broken-hearted when slightly over a year ago, much beloved Norte Dame burned. Ken Follett‘s amour for this historical cathedral and its history made and an interesting read. Paris has had a rough few years and it‘s their turn for things to improve.

Going to make this my next read in between listening to mr. penumbras 24 hour bookstore. I‘ve been wanting to go to Paris all my life and still hope to get there but Notre Dame will never be the same. 🇫🇷 🥖 📚♥️

Andrew65 Can‘t wait to get to this. 😊 5y
tpixie @Andrew65 it‘s only about 60 pages! But I think it‘s going to be interesting! 5y

Ken Follett describes the emotions that gripped him when he learned about the fire that threatened to destroy one of the greatest cathedrals in the world--the Notre-Dame de Paris. He reveals the influence that the Notre-Dame had upon cathedrals around the world and his writing of one of Follett's most famous and beloved novels, The Pillars of the Earth.

Ken Follett will donate his proceeds from this book to the charity La Fondation du Patrimoine.

Andrew65 I‘d noticed this, should be interesting. 5y
