Murder on the Oceanic
Murder on the Oceanic: A Mystery | Conrad Allen
5 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
When the Oceanic sets sail from Englands Port of Southampton, its ultimate destination is New York. But it must make one very important stop first: at Cherbourg, in France, to pick up internationally renowned financier and art collector J. P. Morgan, fresh from a continental buying spree sure to have turned up numerous priceless objets dart. Needless to say, George Porter Dillman and Genevieve Masefield, ships detectives aboard the Oceanic, are slightly nervous about the presence of such an important passenger, not to mention his valuable cargo, among the passengers. For in their five years as detectives aboard the most elegant, regal sailing ships of their time, the two sleuths have never known a transatlantic voyage to pass without incident. Also on board are a recently engaged couple, a charming rake who seems set on breaking them apart as well as seducing Genevieve, a controversial painter of nudes traveling with his bohemian wife and his alluring French model, and a pair of cabin stewards who have exclusive access to the private lairs of all aboard. The latest shipboard tale from master of mystery Conrad Allen is certain to sail right into the hearts of the many fans of this delightful series.

The seventh installment in the George Dillman/Genevieve Masefield series and another winner. These are short, quick cozy mysteries set on the ocean liners of the 1920s and 1930s. In this one the, J. P. Morgan is a guest aboard the Oceanic with treasures in tow from an art buying trip to Paris. A fun story.

This will be last finish for #15books15weeks with Book 11. Although I didn‘t quite finish the challenge, I did get 11 knocked off my TBR.

Another light, undemanding mystery, but one scene struck a discordant note. Seemed out of character for Genevieve and was more frightening than I would otherwise expect from this series.

The same guy who put a review in the back of Murder on the Celtic has put a review in this one as well. Again, typed and taped in rather than written directly on the blank page. I think this series is not really for the historical purist, but it is fun just the same.

Big rain and thunderstorm in progress. Perfect weather for a read-in-one-sitting book like this one!
