An Unfinished Life
An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy, 1917-1963 | Robert Dallek
Everywhere acclaimed for its compelling narrative, its fresh insights, and its dispassionate appraisal of John F. Kennedy's presidency, this #1 national bestseller is the first full-scale single-volume biography of JFK to be written by a historian in nearly four decades. Drawing on previously unavailable material and never-before-opened archives, An Unfinished Life is packed with revelations large and small - about JFK's health, his love affairs, RFK's appointment as Attorney General, what Joseph Kennedy did to help his son win the White House, and the path JFK would have taken in the Vietnam entanglement had he survived. Robert Dallek succeeds as no other biographer has done in striking a critical balance - never shying away from JFK's weaknesses, brilliantly exploring his strengths - as he offers up a vivid portrait of a bold, brave, complex, heroic, human Kennedy.

Is your library next? Is this what you voted for?

Librarybelle So horrible 1mo

Bookwormjillk This is awful (but I think I read they opened again this morning, so that's good I guess.) 1mo

DogMomIrene Watched a Boston news segment on YouTube about how it reopened this morning. Said 5 visitor-facing probationary employees were laid off, though, and that sounds permanent. Just awful. 1mo
dabbe I am moved to say this word that's so hard to say: NO. No, I didn't vote for this. And I stand with my head held high as I now do this: 😡😤🤬 1mo

AmyG I am beyond happy to hear it reopened! 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures I hate how much chaos they are causing. It appears the library is reopened, but I cannot find if they brought back enough staff to keep it open? I am not at all surprised unfortunately, this administration hates history and truth. 1mo
bookishbitch I am so over this administration already. 1mo
AnnCrystal Glad that it reopened.

Scary times 😢 I didn't vote for this either 📚🇺🇲🦅🇺🇸📚.

Books & artist will always be considered a threat. We should gather and do a protest by going outside, finding a safe, legal place to sit, and read from dawn to dusk for a day. If anything, it will drive the suppressors crazy. Writers should come with typewrites or journals and artist with canvases.

Just to be clear, I am not officially suggesting this 😜📚💝.

BarbaraBB Are libraries being shut down in the US? Because of money or because of that horrible man? 1mo
Lindy Amy, I feel odd acknowledging your post with a heart. I want the option of a broken heart instead. 😔 1mo
AmyG Oh @Lindy 😞 1mo
forestandcrow My library is trying to change my kids library card to where she cannot check out books they deem "inappropriate" for her age. They are trying to also not let us use our cards at other libraries not in our network. They are moving books that the religious zealouts here deem "pornographic" or "inappropriate" for kids without reading them. Our library is aleeady small enough. It is awful. I have emailed so manytimes about it all. 1mo
Susanita Hateful people doing hateful things. 1mo
AmyG @forestandcrow That‘s horrible. I am now trying to make a library of books for my grandson-history, science, banned books…from used book sales. This world. 😞🤬 1mo

AshleyHoss820 And people made fun of me for amassing a large in-home library. I knew what was coming. This is all so exhausting. (edited) 1mo
CoverToCoverGirl This all so sad and overwhelming.. 1mo
ncsufoxes We are going to try & go to the Smithsonian‘s National African American Museum of History & Culture this weekend. Since I fear they will be spiteful & shut it down. 1mo
AmyG @AshleyHoss820 I‘m with you on this. 👊🏻 @ncsufoxes That you even had to type that breaks my heart. @CoverToCoverGirl It is. 😢 (edited) 1mo
ncsufoxes @AmyG same, it makes me sad & angry that this is something I have to even think about 1mo

I found this to be a very good read. Especially if you're not fully aware of this man...or his presidency. It's a #chunkster so be prepared to settle in for a few days read. Truly a very good and interesting book. #bookspin @thearomaofbooks

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Working my way through the presidential bios. This one was good. I was a little bummed that the only audio version was abridged (although not THAT bummed since it came after really long books about Truman and Eisenhower). Still learned a lot, especially about Kennedy‘s foreign policy experiences.

Roary47 I‘m encouraged to read through the bios now. What a great way to learn more about history. 2y
fredthemoose @Roary47 Give it a shot! At least for a time period you‘re interested in. I started a few years ago and it has really shored up a lot of my understanding of American history. A lot of the biographies are long, but many are also quite good. (edited) 2y

My plan is to read at least a chapter a day in an effort to start working more non-fiction off my TBR pile.

Kaye I will be interested in seeing your reviews since I like nonfiction. Sorry if this posts twice. My first comment isn‘t showing up. 🤨 7y
