I was pleasantly surprised by this story of boarding school intrigue that I got for free from Amazon First Reads. I wasn't able to solve the mystery myself and I enjoyed the journey to the ending.

An interesting premise, well written, but I didn‘t connect with or care about any of the characters, and the stakes never seemed quite dire enough for me. While I wouldn‘t not recommend the book (it kept my attention and I enjoyed it), I feel like I liked the idea of the plot better that the book itself, but it was free so not complaining!
A great escapist tale about the mysterious disappearance of a teacher at a prestigious prep school, told through the eyes of a family. The parents were at the school at the time and the daughter is now a student 20 years‘ later. The story is told through diary entries, flashbacks and the investigations of the journalism class.
@KarenUK was it you who said that you loved books set in liberal arts colleges? This is a prep school but still.... 😁
Knowing that “Linda Keir” is not one person but two, I was acutely aware of stylistic inconsistencies. The story was interesting enough that I didn‘t bail, but the prose is meh. No mental energy required, but no great reward offered for the little effort required. So-so.
This falls between so-so and pick for me. I feel like the writing was a little inconsistent but I also found myself very interested in finding out what happened so I never thought of bailing. It was entertaining and dealt with some heavy topics without feeling heavy.
Snow falling outside plus a snuggly blanket and an interesting mystery inside adds up to a wonderful day.

A good mystery and a hard look at how far we‘ll go to preserve the legacy of a family or institution.
