I finished this short story from the Shady Hollow series as part of my #ThematicCozies for January #Animal It‘s a bit out of season with it‘s October/Halloween setting but I missed it in October & wanted to check it off to be completely caught up with this series. A quick read with Vera & the down looking for a young squirrel possibly ⬇️

A reread, but I‘m being kinder to it the second time than I was my first read. I still think the weight Vivi puts on Rhys‘ betrothal is too much, but hey, gotta second chance romance it somewhere. I do need some hard and fast magic rules tho bc Vivi doing “big magic” like the candle and the summoning? I don‘t even know what this world would consider big magic. Gimme rules! Outlines! Something! Overall, fun, fast, and easy.

Lora is still playing pretend and her friends are out growing that game. She meets Alexa, an imaginary friend/ghost. The story's theme is about being yourself, holding on to the magic of childhood. Graphics good, story concept good. Overall, a good read.

Although it's a little clunky in places---the POV in the first section switches so often and with so little difference between character voices that it's hard to keep track, and sometimes the plot twists make the story feel a bit like riding in a car with an automatic transmission driven by a two-footed driver---the story overall is enjoyable. I love that it's set in Kansas. What a lovely change of pace!

4 ⭐ This book was wonderful. It was rhyming fun. The cadence was spot on. The story was entertaining. This would be great fun at storytime. Between the story itself and all the sound words that kids will get into and want to beatbox along with. Add some colorful, exciting illustrations and I‘m surprised I haven‘t heard more about this book.

4 ⭐ This book was a little long, but it needed to be. This is for an older kid at bedtime. Posey loves the story of monsters read to her every night by her dad and she knows exactly how to take care of them. If only her parents could get her to stay in bed. But can pose defeat the zombies? This book was a lot of fun and the illustrations are fantastic.

I have read 40 books this year…my goal was 25! Gonna see if I can make it 41 before the New Year. I hope everyone‘s Christmas was merry and bright ❤️.

As an elder emo, The Nightmare Before Christmas will forever have a special place in my heart and life.
I was nervous about how this story would go since I‘ve tried to read some Twisted Tales and they didn‘t keep me engaged, but this one was fantastic.
It was such a fun read! I love the adorable banter between Jack and Sally.
The epilogue was beautiful and I teared up while reading. Definitely a favorite read for the year. #sallyslament #tnbc
