12 year old Lora feels like all her friends are growing up and are ready to embrace the next stage while she wants to do all the things they used to do. So she throws a magical tea party with her stuffed animals and a ghost appears.

A book about growing up and accepting that life changes

Good twist on the origin story for a haunted house. 4 horror authors spend a night in the house for a podcast publicity stunt, changing their lives forever. Sometimes repetitive, but I had to keep turning the pages! Overall a good read.

Pumpkin Fever | Francine Pascal

It‘s the 5th #SweetValleyHalloween & Mr. Clark announces the school‘s trip fund is low, so they need the prize from the Pumpkin Growers Association as the school with the most pumpkin spirit! Elizabeth comes up with the idea to crown a Halloween king & queen by voting using carved jack-o-lanterns! Jessica feels jealous & then takes credit for Liz‘s acorn pumpkin earrings, bringing the pumpkin spotlight back to her! Liz gets justice through Poe!

JenlovesJT47 I don‘t think I read any SVT books past that weird Dr. Q one which is 102 I think. Is the vibe totally different still? 2w
TorieStorieS No, the Dr. Q definitely stuck out— these others have been more in line with the earlier ones, though Todd isn‘t as around as he had been 2w

4 ⭐Jane Yolen is a master storyteller. Along with the illustrator in less than 20 words, they can have a book from beginning to end. It‘s a perfect book for bedtime for that last push right before sleep.

I struggle with this series, and yet the cupcakes keep me coming back. This is book 7–some this far have been good, others not so much. This one I really did not like.

This one focuses more on the personal lives of Mel and Angie rather than the mystery. A woman who looks like Angie is killed at a zombie walk. It‘s pretty obvious Angie was the target (it‘s related to an ongoing situation from the prior 2 books…I‘m going to be as spoiler free ⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ as possible) and yet both Angie and Mel basically deny this. They are independent women (and Mel at one point refers to herself as a liberated woman) who do not need help or protection. Except… they do. I‘m an independent woman, and I certainly know if someone in the mafia was clearly out to get me I would listen to law enforcement and my family and stay safe. I‘m not sure if their obtuseness and blatant disregard for loved ones‘ concerns.. 3w
Librarybelle …is supposed to be a highlighted strength for independent women, as portrayed in this book, or if it‘s a caution that independent women can be obstinate. It left me feeling very disgruntled and yelling at my phone as Susan Boyce reads the story on audio. Yes, it‘s a cozy mystery, so amateur sleuths are known to do silly and dangerous things. But, this just crosses the line. There are other things too that drove me nuts with Mel and Angie. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ (edited) 3w
Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ It‘s fine to be frustrated that people are hovering, but it‘s also not cool to drag people into danger. Sigh…I have the rest of the series on audio, so I will continue to listen (I do like the cupcake talk), but this one was just too much. Disclaimer: My threshold for people‘s poor behavior is pretty low right now given the world‘s issues, so this may play a part in my feelings for this. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w

The Ghost Who Was Afraid of Everything | Nadia Ahmed (Illustrator)

3.5 ⭐ This is a bad ghost who‘s afraid. But one year when he doesn‘t get what he most wants from his family, he decides the only way to ensure that is to become less afraid. He spends the year slowly building up stamina so that he can join his family to get what they most desired. Occasionally, there‘s a setback, but the setbacks make him stronger in the end. This is a great message. The story is a little long, but in total

LibrarianRyan works quite well. The illustrations are unique and unusual but work perfectly for this book in the setting.

The Halloween Tree | Ray Bradbury

Pickpick

A timeless, imaginative tale that blends elements of fantasy, history, and coming-of-age storytelling. Bradbury's prose is lyrical and evocative, immersing readers in the eerie, magical atmosphere of Halloween. His love for the holiday is palpable, and the novel serves as both a celebration and an exploration of its deeper meanings. Categorized as a YA book, its exploration of mortality should resonate with older audiences as well.

5✨ This book was amazing! I‘ve been really liking the twisted tales I have already read so I was really excited when my friend suggested I read this one for my #12in12 personal challenge. Sally‘s character grew a lot in this story, and she helped others to be proud of who they were. I liked that even through it was based in Christmas town it was where the bad guy was, and the characters were facing the issues in the story.
