When the historic Hopkins ferry is raised from the lake, a skeleton is discovered. Unfortunately, the only evidence is a piece of lace-like fabric. But once Betsy Devonshire and the patrons of her needlecraft shop lend a hand, they're sure to stitch together the details of this mystery... "Filled with great small-town characters...A great time!"Rendezvous

Pickpick

One of these days, I‘ll decide whether to give lacemaking another try, or to admit that my eyesight/patience aren‘t up to it and give the pillow and bobbins away. Tomorrow maybe.

Meanwhile, this is an enjoyable cosy series, set in a Minnesota needlework shop. When a streetcar ferry is lifted from the lakebed, a skeleton is found inside. As one of Betsy‘s friends is a key suspect in the 50-year-old murder, Betsy has her arm twisted to investigate.

julesG Lace making takes a lot of patience, doesn't it? 1y
rockpools @julesG It‘s a very slow process, and I never really got good enough at it for it to be a great success. I do *like* it though! Have you ever tried it? 1y
julesG I had to. 🙈🙈🙈 Has to learn all kinds of crafts. I was never patient enough for it, nor any good. 1y

rockpools @julesG It‘s possible I like the idea of it better than the reality of it. It‘s also possible that this has been sat in a cupboard for the best past of 17 years now, so I *REALLY* should admit it‘s not for me… 1y
julesG Well, Marie Kondo says: if it doesn't spark joy, toss it. 1y
rockpools @julesG if she could come and camp out with me for a few days, we could probably make some progress about now… 1y
julesG 🤣🤣 Same! 1y
julesG I'm always "it does not spark joy, but it might again in a few weeks. Better keep it." 1y
rockpools @julesG It doesn‘t spark joy but it has the potential to odd only I‘d sit down and focus…. For 17 years. Right, it‘s going. I take it you don‘t want it? 1y
julesG Pass. I'm glad I left that at my parents'. 1y
rockpools @julesG 😂😂😂. 1y
rockpools OK. If anyone UK-based would like a bobbin-lace pillow, bobbins and a beginner‘s lace-making course, please comment below. I can put them in the post to you (in a couple of weeks, when me & the post have recovered from Christmas). Can‘t see this getting through customs nicely/without costing an arm and a leg, so best keep it within the UK. 1y

I finished FRAMED IN LACE while I worked on a project I can‘t post to Litsy just in case the recipient‘s a secret lurker, so here‘s a wee dragon instead. I worked this up years ago and only just rediscovered it. Obviously it needs a good cleaning.

The book was fun all the way through, and I love how needlecraft stayed a central theme no matter what else was going on. I‘ll definitely continue the series soon.

Gift-giving, 2020 style: I made my aunt and uncle a mask rack featuring their dog. #audiocrafting

I started a new audiobook while I wrapped some presents! This is my third Monica Ferris mystery, and I‘m officially a fan. There‘re a couple of dodgy things here and there, but for the most part these needlecraft books are a lot of fun. They make me want to make stuff.

Plus, they‘re set in Minnesota. I like Minnesota. #audiowrapping

readingjedi Love the Watership Down one! Though anything to do with that book is liable to reduce me to tears and I don't want my stitching getting soggy! 🤣😭 5y
