"An almost flawless story of love...Morgan emerges as a true hero." LOS ANGELES TIMES Morgan Gower works at Cullen's hardware store in north Baltimore. He has seven daughters and a warmhearted wife, but as he journeys into the gray area of middle age, he finds his household growing tedious. Then Morgan meets two lovely young newlyweds under some rather extreme circumstances--and all three discover that no one's heart is safe.... From the Paperback edition.

OP shop haul today! Two shops, 47 books in total.
Here are 9.
All of these were unexpected and not on my wishlist. I have passed up Alibrandi and The Lovely Bones quite a few times before as I've seen the movies but thought I'd grab them today.
Victor Hugo's biography, Anne Tyler and Amy Tan's novels are the ones I'm most looking forward to. I'm also very interested in Peter Høeg.
I've read Chinese Cinderella, but my girl wants to read it again.

Crazeedi You outdid yourself!! I'll bet it was fun! 3y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Nice haul!! One of my guilty pleasures is seeing other people‘s book hauls. I don‘t even necessarily need to like the books, I just love seeing other people buying stacks and stacks of books! 😅❤️🥰 3y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm lol, SNAP! Me too! Totally love other people's book stacks. Ever since I can remember, my heart always skips a beat whenever I go past a bookstore! Such a lovely fluttery feeling 😊 3y

Curiouser_and_curiouser @Crazeedi I did. I know it. And it was too much fun. Two words, "Happy place". I really don't have room for more books and I certainly don't "need" any more. I am currently putting books away in boxes once I've read them as there's no room for them all, but one day.... 3y
Crazeedi @Curiouser_and_curiouser you should see the stacks I have. And in my various moves I divested of many. But I've been here for 20 plus years. I wish my library was taking books! 3y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Crazeedi do you have any Little Libraries around you? Or even op shops? I know my uncle buys books from the opshop then returns them when he's read them. I put the books I choose not to keep in a box and if I feel like checking out a Little Library I can use those to replace any I choose to take away. 3y
Crazeedi @Curiouser_and_curiouser first what is an op shop? And no little libraries or used bookstores. I'm in a very rural area. If I were younger I'd open a used bookstore! 3y

Pickpick

I jumped right in this Anne Tyler novel(her 8th) from 1980 for #BookSpinBingo. Morgan, with a closet full of costumes, reinvents himself whenever the occasion arises to spice up his humdrum life. This NYT quote says it all:
“Miss Tyler, witty, civilized, curious, with her radar ears and quill pen dipped on one page in acid, and on the next in orange liqueur, is asking whether art is adequate in impersonations life insists on.”🙌🏻
@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! Also - a very small Christmas parcel should be coming directly to you from the Etsy shop where I bought it!! ❤ 3y
UwannaPublishme A surprise from you? Aww! What a treat! I‘ll let you know when it arrives. 😘😘😘 3y
PurpleyPumpkin Every time you post about an Anne Tyler book, I'm reminded that I need to read more! I've only read two, Vinegar Girl and Back When We Were Grownups. Hard to believe, I know. I've gotta get on it! Maybe in 2021? 3y
UwannaPublishme Anne is waiting for you! 😁 I‘m going to reread Back When We Were Grownups because I just found the film version on eBay. 3y
