This is a memoir by a woman who spent a year holding Jane Austen book clubs in various Central and South American cities. I enjoyed the insights into how different cultures reacted to some of my favorite books more than the details about the author‘s love life, but overall this was a good read.

This was a reread for me for my Jane Austen book discussion through the library. Loved it the 2nd time around too! Smith chooses to spend a year on the road in Central and South America, reading Austen with book groups. While in each country, she gets to know the culture and the people and immerses herself in Spanish and daily life. Some touching moments, and a great vicarious travelogue. In this part memoir, part travelogue, & all things Jane Austen, Smith recounts her journey through South America as she teaches a novel by Jane Austen at each location. She makes friends and may or may not have a #love interest or two.

I read this a billion years ago and loved the journey - Smith connects deeply with Austen, thanks to her experiences and her studies. I‘m making my library book discussion group about Austen read it! #200PnPCovers

I‘m so enjoying this book!

I absolutely loved this book!!! A book about travel, reading Jane Austen, and of course love, how could I not?! But best of all, as a result of reading this book, I have half a dozen new books to go in search of and at lest as many new destinations I would love to explore.

Started this on the ferry ride this afternoon. Loving it so far. Am officially adopting the term "smackable characters."
