"There was something important about never fully acknowledging what was happening between us. It was the thinnest bubble, a membrane I might burst if I settled on it for too long."

"I felt thirteen, which was becoming more rare. *We are bowling,* I thought. *This is safe. I‘m having fun.*"

I bought some books yesterday (at the Strand, Three Lived, and McNally Jackson).
A raw, sometimes difficult to read memoir of a girl's coming of age and saving herself through her writing. Along the way she experiences the jolts of power and vulnerability that define adolescence, and thrashes her way through an illegal sexual relationship with a teacher and a panoply of drug use while her alcoholic parents issue wan admonitions. A beautiful, fierce voice.
I really restrained myself at Powell's for Day 2. I only did that by limiting my time physically in the store! Crazy how that works. Tomorrow is my last day. I still have a visit to Elliot Bay this weekend left!! Book trips are great trips.
