3 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
The Midsomer Worthys Writers Circle has never had much luck in attracting guest speakers. Consequently, there is much surpriseand, in the case of the Circles secretary, Gerald Hadleigh, a furious, inexplicable objectionwhen best-selling novelist Max Jennings accepts their invitation. Surprise turns into a variety of responses when Hadleigh is found dead the morning after Jennings visitation. Chief Inspector Barnaby soon determines that the key to solving the murder will lie with the illustrious Jennings. Theres only one problem: he has disappeared.

This really did not age well. I disliked Sgt. Troy and found the main storyline rather sensational and weird. It was a meandering sort of story and by the end I really didn‘t care whodunnit. The cat that Barnaby and his wife were cat-sitting was honestly the best part of the whole book for me.

KathyWheeler The show made an excellent decision when they decided to change Troy‘s character. I was used to him from the show, but I really dislike him in the books. 13mo
rwmg Add me to the list of those who prefer TV Troy to Book Troy. Most people I know just want to look after TV Troy but detest book Troy 13mo

I‘ve been enjoying the audio versions of the books that the Midsomer Murder mysteries are based on. There is a lot more detail in the books than can be crammed into an allotted tv series time. I‘ve seen most/maybe all of the shows, but as there were umpteen seasons, I‘ve mostly forgotten the plots and the “who dunnit”, so the endings are a surprise. These are fun and entertaining listens.

Another great addition to the Midsomer Murders series! I do love that these books delve into the characters a bit more than the TV series, so the reader gets a closer look at Barnaby and Troy and the individual characters involved in the crime. The narration is wonderful, and I‘ve pre-ordered the next title, so I can immediately start to listen!

Murder and lots of suspects - what else could you need??? #Booked2023 #TitleBeginsWithVOrW

MallenNC I love that show and somehow didn‘t know there were books. 2y
Librarybelle @MallenNC They we‘re published starting in the late 1980s. I think there are 7 books total. I love the show too and was so happy to discover these! 2y
Cinfhen So great when you can already anticipate the next book!! 2y
