This book is quoted frequently in my current non-fic read, The Splendid and the Vile by Eric Larson, so my jaw dropped when I saw this in a local Little Free Library today 😮. Says inside published June 20, 1941. Discovered the note inserted in the book just now. Interesting!!
Jari-chan What a great find! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Jari-chan yes, especially in a LFL. Wonder who put it there. Cover is a bit battered but book itself in good condition! 4y
Nute So cool how that came about for you and then the bonus discovery of a little left behind note. Today is a good day!🙂 4y

arubabookwoman The note is interesting, but a little sad and lonely. 4y
LeahBergen That‘s so cool!! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Nute yes, quite the surprise!! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @arubabookwoman I agree. The more I think about it, the more I wonder who they were and the circumstances. Sisters, maybe? Written when it was still wartime? 4y
Ruthiella I LOVE it when that happens! Bookish serendipity! 😀 (edited) 4y
Leftcoastzen Love that letterhead! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Ruthiella yes, serendipity indeed 😀 ! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @leftcoastzen Just looked up the address of the letterhead and it‘s where the high rise federal prison is in Philly (which went up about 30 years ago). 4y
ValerieAndBooks @LeahBergen it‘s neat to find unexpected stuff like this (both the book and note) ! 4y
