A bit slow to get going but really enjoyed this as a quiet, interior journey of self-discovery for two very different people across two very different generations. Makes me want to read more from Geye.

BookNAround I fell in love with his writing in Safe from the Sea. 5y

Pickpick

This, the final part of Geye‘s monumental trilogy, is a stunning achievement. The storytelling, both intimate and majestic, will take your breath away. Geye‘s characters are gloriously rendered; you‘ll find yourself cheering them on, in all their messy humanity. Can‘t recommend this highly enough.

Hooked_on_books Do they need to be read in order? I discovered that somehow I have books 2 and 3 but not 1 and I wonder if I can skip it (or go back and read it if I fall in love). 5y
AlexGeorge I don‘t think they need to be read in order - although it‘s been a while since I read the first two. But the stories are not linear so I think you would be fine. 5y
