Mehso-so

So I loved Wayside Books as a kid, and even read the first one to my students almost every year. I was super excited for this new book, and it fell a bit short for me. I can't pinpoint it, but it just didn't have all of the sparks I felt as a kid.

I guess this is how I ended June. I will take this, 6 books complete. This is a great challenge for me, thanks!

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Great progress this month!! 3y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I totally agree! But I thought it was because I was a kid when I read the first ones and now I‘m 39 🤷‍♀️ 2y

The fourth book in the Wayside series featuring 30 more stories about the 30th floor building.

I just love these books and I am glad that he wrote a fourth book. As a kid, I was disappointed that there was only three to read.

It may have been forty years, but it looks like Louis Sachar's sense of humor remains the same. I can already tell I'm going to like this one!

I was worried, as I started this, that Wayside School would feel like a relic, with Sachar returning to a series he started 40 years ago.

Who was I kidding? I‘m halfway through and still laughing uproariously at this. Sachar is a master. If you‘ve never read Wayside School I wouldn‘t start here, but if you‘ve enjoyed any of the other Wayside School books in the last forty years, you‘ll probably like this too, even with our current cloud of doom.

emtobiasz Also it‘s on #hoopla! 5y

Returning to Wayside School was a lot of fun. I loved these books as a kid so I was pretty excited to hear that Sachar was writing a new one all these years later. Beneath The Cloud Of Doom is published 40 years after the first Wayside School book, and it's just as silly as the first three were. Even though I'm an adult now (sort of), I chuckled out loud numerous times reading this book. It brought me right back to my youth. Very nostalgic.

Welcome back to Wayside School! It felt like revisiting old friends on a new journey. Pretty sure the Cloud of Doom is a metaphor for the current political situation, but at the end is a delicious rainbow stew, ya'll.

angielackswings I remember the original, such nostalgia 😍 5y
