Wild Silence
Wild Silence | Raynor Winn
9 posts | 9 read | 8 to read
Following the hugely successful Sunday Times Bestseller, Wainwright Golden Beer Book Prize nominee and Costa shortlisted, The Salt Path, Raynor Winn returns with her second brilliant book. This time the narrative explores the difficulties surrounding the return to mainstream life after a period of homelessness. Recovering self-esteem and trust, in herself and in others, is harder than she expected. Raynor and her husband Moth continue to face his debilitating illness, until an incredible gesture by someone who read The Salt Path changes everything. This book is about readjusting to life after homelessness, but also about recovering trust and self-belief after a traumatic event - feelings that can translate to many episodes in the life of any of us.

Pickpick

A sequel, or maybe (at times) more of a prequel to The Salt Path. Written in four segments, it‘s really almost four short stories that are all interconnected. If you loved Winn‘s first book and want to know more, this book has a little bit of everything - more backstory, rewilding a farm, and a hike in Iceland. I finished it, but I agree with the Guardian review, “the narrative often lacks a compass.”

I wrongly assumed this would be a similar account of a different journey but it's actually a combination of her youth and how life went for a few years post Salt Path. The only physical journey comes towards the end.
Whilst I truly like her descriptive prose, I wasn't as drawn to this one. But that's a personal opinion, no reflection on the book!

So I'd just finished reading my previous book, standing at my pile, deciding which to.pick... and my inbox pinged to tell me this long anticipated book had downloaded from my amazing library app 😍☺☺☺.
Reckon that's me sorted for the next few days... it's quite a short read too 😐😐📙📘📗

RachelAmphlett I loved The Salt Path! 3y

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

Raynor always writes with such honesty abs beauty. This is the continued story of Raynor and Moth after time on The Salt Path. You feel her fear, hope and new found expectance.
