An interesting audio-play set in the Alien world. I hadn‘t seen the movies recently so it was a little confusing at times but overall really interesting and well done.

This is a dramatization of William Gibson‘s original script of Alien III. The producers ultimately went a different direction and I am extremely glad they did. I love the Alien films. I love William Gibson. I love Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen. I did NOT like this dramatization. I thought Henriksen struggled between reading and acting and his performance felt forced. I struggled to pay attention to the bland story. No Ripley. 2⭐️ #2019

rretzler @esurient Yep! She‘s in a coma the whole time. I think there was some reason they thought she might not do the 3rd movie so Gibson wrote it leaving her out. I‘m guessing when Sigourney Weaver signed on, they dropped Gibson‘s script. Pure speculation on my part though. Glad they went a different direction. (edited) 6y

A+ for the sound design and performances (especially Lance Henriksen reprising his role in the franchise as synthetic person Bishop) in this audio production of William Gibson‘s unused ‘80s script.

Unfortunately the story is just a solid C. It doesn‘t hold a candle to the pitch black shriveled little Grinch-heart of a movie that is David Fincher‘s Alien3, a film I love.

They got Michael Biehn as Hicks to say “Stay frosty” though. That was fun.

rretzler Just started listening last night for a few minutes before bed and I was not impressed. I may end up bailing on it. I have not been thrilled by Audible‘s monthly free selections. This month I struggled with my pick for a second selection and the one I picked I don‘t think I‘ll ever listen to. ☹️ 6y

I truly love Alien3 which puts me in the minority because it is by far the bleakest of the series (although the latest, Covenant, was angling for that honor).

It famously went through all kinds of insane development troubles, and at some point science fiction master William Gibson‘s 1987 script fell by the wayside.

That unused script is back in the form of an audio play*. Let‘s see what might have been.

rretzler I picked up Gibson‘s version the other day too! I‘m a fan of all the movies - sequels included (although I haven‘t gotten around to seeing the latest.) I love action movies and Ripley makes a great action hero! 6y
