Isabella Beverley is blessed with unparalleled beauty but, unfortunately, has been raised in the most snobbish and haughty of families. And when her father gambles away their fortune - including Mannerling, the exquisite family mansion, Isabella discovers that there is very little sympathy for her plight. As the eldest, Isabella is chosen to court Mr. Judd, the roguish bachelor who won Mannerling. Surely no sacrifice is too great to regain Mannerling? But tempting her away from Mr. Judd is Lord Fitzpatrick, an Irish rake who fears Isabella can never love a man as she does her home - but is nonetheless determined to convince her to choose man over manse!

I would have picked pandemic but this “works” too. Thoughts?

Heideschrampf Hahaha if it fits... in germany the „youth word“ of the year was LOST. 3y
Susanita Considering that some folks call any restrictions a lockdown, it‘s a very 2020 word. 3y

This is the first book in the Daughters of Mannerling series and I quite enjoyed it. It‘s a regency story that focuses on the oldest daughter of Mannerling, Isabella. She has 5 sisters (each get their own book!). Their father has gambled away their beloved home, and Isabella feels it is her duty to get it back by marrying the new owner. I enjoyed her character growth and I‘m looking forward to the next book in the series. 4⭐️

MC Beaton‘s regency romances are some of my go-to books when I want something fun and light.

CarolynM I enjoy them too. I was very sorry to hear about her death a few days ago. 4y
KerriNTurner @CarolynM oh I hadn‘t seen the news about her passing. What a loss to the literary world 😔 4y
