I realize this sounds hokey but I'm giving this one a shot. Usually I would have taken a hard pass as at a glance it comes off as 'you too can be superman and conquer life to be better than all the chumps around you!'...but I heard it highly recommended on a podcast I love & am willing to be open minded given I feel so drained of every last ounce of energy that my will to do anything beyond survive is nonexistent. Continued in comments..

CuriousG I've managed to get past the dated references to having a Blackberry & Palm Pilot (🤣🤣🤣) & was finding it hard to buy in when they acknowledged their unexpected discovery that the average person has far more daily stress in their work day than professional athletes (& they initially only worked with high level athletes, so they would know), & we need to start recognizing our agency in finding ways to sprint and recover vs constant marathons. 1y
CuriousG I'm the first person to scream from the rooftops that sometimes we just don't have the option of walking away to recover (as my 4 months of 60-70 hour work weeks show) and there are personal situations that complicate things (like my husband's acquired brain injury). But the fact remains, it's literally killing me, and the only person who can find ways to help myself is me.This talks about physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energy... 1y
CuriousG ...and the need to balance and find ways to stretch and recover in all areas. I think the idea of 'view the tough stuff as challenges to grow' and then step back to recover, will actually be helpful. Demands are never going to go away, but maybe I can find a way to push just enough, then recover just enough. A physical workout isn't helpful if it doesn't push our limits, but we also need a recovery period 1y

CuriousG I think I like the continuation of that to mental/emotional/spiritual. We'll see how this one plays out though. 1y
JillR I‘ll be interested to hear whether you find this helps overall. I too am feeling burned out (from a work perspective), expected to constantly work to a very high level with no let up, and it‘s hard. A former boss once said to me, no matter what level you work at, you need some easy things in the mix for balance, and I‘ve never forgotten that, even though it‘s hard to allow myself to do those “easier” tasks when always so busy! 1y
CuriousG @JillR I will try to post my thoughts as I chip away at it. I won't fly through it but I need to prioritize myself, so I am going to set aside at least 20 minutes a day for it. I do feel there are some jobs/times in life where there is simply just to much & there is no recovery time available, but they can't go on forever (which I think is the point of the book?). It makes me sad to consider my job may not be compatible with health/sanity 😔 1y

Easy to understand, the exercises build upon themselves so you can live a fully engaged life. There were plenty of case studies to draw from. The most difficult part of implementing these energy restoring techniques is the self diagnosis to find out what you need.

I'm posting one book per day from the ever growing unread stacks in my personal library. No description or explanation, just books I own and plan to read. #tbr

"We are oscillatory beings in an oscillatory universe. Rhythmicity is our inheritance."

(Note - I've barely started reading this one, but I'm sick to death of 'time management tools' that just make me feel like a failure because my life has too many crazy demands to be managed in terms of time. Really hoping the focus on managing my energy is more effective)

Been hearing a lot about this concept lately, and I definitely think it's true. Managing energy may be more important than managing time. #productivity
