The Piano Man's Daughter | Timothy Findley
3 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
Now an important title in the newly redesigned PerennialCanada series, Timothy Findley's The Piano Man's Daughter continues to be one of his most popular books ever. The novel's reissue follows on the heels of Findley's newest novel,Pilgrim, released in late 1999 and sure to attract even more new readers to the Findley fold. A glorious reverberation of a time when change was reaching a crescendo and yet hope and renewal were always to be found, The Piano Man's Daughter is the story of Lily Kilworth and her son Charlie, a young piano tuner, who must find answers to the questions that define his life. Who was his father? And, given the swirl of madness enveloping his mother, does he dare become a father himself? Set at the turn of the century and inspired by the history of Findley's own mother's family, this is a remarkable novel that sings with love and loss, a wonderful burst of reading pleasure.

Following the lead of @TracyReadsBooks and sharing one of my favourite signed books. I stumbled across this copy of The Piano Man's Daughter 10+ years ago. A family member gave it to me and told me to just pass it along when I was done with it...she didn't even realize that having a signed copy was a big deal! Needless to say, I pulled a selfish on this one and did *not* just send it on down the line. #FavoriteSignedBooks #FavouriteSignedBooks

CuriousG I should note that I did offer to give it back to the person, but she didn't want it 🤷‍♀️ 2y
PurpleyPumpkin This is one book I‘d be keeping forever!😉 2y
TracyReadsBooks I love this story! The delight in finding a signed book unexpectedly is real, isn‘t it? 2y

CuriousG @PurpleyPumpkin Right?! It also happened to come to me at a time when I was working at the Stratford Festival and his play Elizabeth Rex premiered. I knew what I had in my hands and wasn't letting it go! I was only a bartender, but working there was maybe the coolest job I've had in terms of exposing me to people, ideas, and art I would not normally have been around. Amazing how much you can glean behind a bar. Lol 2y
CuriousG @TracyReadsBooks It absolutely is! 2y
PurpleyPumpkin How amazing that you worked at the Stratford Festival! What an experience that must have been.😀 2y
CuriousG @PurpleyPumpkin It definitely had its perks. I would love to have free access to theatre now! 2y
kwmg40 What a treasure! I had the privilege of hearing Timothy Findley do a reading in before he passed. I also live close to the Stratford Festival and have been attending regularly for the past 35 years. How cool that you had worked there! 2y
CuriousG @kwmg40 growing up nearby, and going to Stratford for school, I had no idea how amazing it was to have something like the Festival Theatre right there. Now I can actually appreciate it and can't wait to actually set foot in the new Tom Patterson Theatre this year! 2y
kwmg40 I‘m looking forward to seeing the new theatre too! 2y
