Stumptown Volume 2: The Case of the Baby in the Velvet Case
Stumptown Volume 2: The Case of the Baby in the Velvet Case | Greg Rucka
10 posts | 18 read | 4 to read
From Eisner Award-winning writer Greg Rucka and acclaimed artist Matthew Southworth comes a NEW Stumptown mystery! Dex Parios has finally opened her own office, and her first case is to find rock star Mim Bracca's baby - her prized guitar, which disappeared after her band Tailhook's Portland show. Mim has no leads, and she doesn't want to go to the police - but Dex needs the case, and besides, it shouldn't be that hard to find a missing guitar. As long as the D.E.A. doesn't get involved ... or the Skinheads

#SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView

This volume didn't have the same intensity as the first two, and a bit less of the sarcastic dialogue I've come to love.

Still a good read, just not as good as the others.

TheSpineView Excellant work! 🤩📖 2y

What a fun ride this series is!!! So glad I found it last month - I want to just tear through the rest of it now. Dex Parrios is a kick-ass scrappy chick - I'd want her on my side any day.

"Was it good for you?"

That quote after a harrowing car chase sums up Dex's character, whom I loved. I inadvertently started with the second volume (the only one available to me through the library.) I didn't realize until the end so it worked as a standalone (but I did buy the first.) I loved the humorous noir feel. I'm a sucker for a sassy and observant female detective. The art wasn't my favorite but it fit the style and supported the story.

MarriedtoMrT Thank you to @Chessa for the recommendation! #blameitonlitsy 7y
Chessa Oh good! So glad you enjoyed it. Dex is rad! 7y

🌟🌟🌟🌟 The story here wasn't the strongest in my opinion, but I'm here for the characters. I love Dex's relationship with her brother, Ansel. I also really liked her working with CK in this arc - hoping to see her back again. Nerdy references and panels that make me cry = win.

RealLifeReading Ok I really want to read this series! 8y
Chessa @RealLifeReading I love it! Part of it is Portland nostalgia for me, but I also just love the gritty noir feel. Dex is a tough lady detective with a heart of gold. 8y

Another day, another graphic novel at the pool. 😎 I may have rather audibly exclaimed YASSSS when I saw this on the library shelves yesterday.

maximoffs I have yet to read a Mary Roach book 🙈 8y
Lizpixie Have you tried the Hellblazer graphic novels? They're by the same author as Girl With All The Gifts & Fellside. 8y
Chessa @Lizpixie No, I haven't! But I really should. Going to see if my library has them, thanks! 8y
