My Kind of People
My Kind of People: A Novel | Lisa Duffy
5 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
From the author of The Salt House and This Is Home comes a profound novel about the power of community and a small towns long-buried secrets as a group of New England islanders come together for a recently orphaned girl. On Ichabod Island, a jagged strip of land thirteen miles off the coast of Massachusetts, ten-year-old Sky becomes an orphan for the second time after a tragic accident claims the lives of her adoptive parents. Grieving the death of his best friends, Leos life is turned upside down when he finds himself the guardian of young Sky. Back on the island and struggling to balance his new responsibilities and his marriage to his husband, Leo is supported by a powerful community of neighbors, many of them harboring secrets of their own. Maggie, who helps with Skys childcare, has hit a breaking point with her police chief husband, who becomes embroiled in a local scandal. Her best friend Agnes, the island busybody, invites Skys estranged grandmother to stay for the summer, straining already precarious relationships. Their neighbor Joe struggles with whether to tell all was not well in Skys house in the months leading up to the accident. And among them all is a mysterious woman, drawn to Ichabod to fulfill a dying wish. Perfect for fans of Celeste Ng and Ann Leary, My Kind of People is a riveting, impassioned novel about the resilience of community and what connects us all in the face of tragedy.

Trying to get this one finished today. It is sooooo good. And yes it is 5 o‘clock somewhere. #24b4monday #readathon @Andrew65 @SumisBooks @jb72

ValerieAndBooks At first I thought you were talking about finishing the wine because it was good 😊. Cheers! 4y
BeansPage I have a question for you sweetie. I was wondering if you could find time in your schedule to read and review my book for me? I'm not looking for professional reviews, I'm just looking for people who will give honest opinions on the book. You were referred to me by a mutual friend of ours. 😊 4y
Reecaspieces @SumisBooks yes ma‘am I will be happy to. May take me a little while because my job sucks. Fredreeca2001@yahoo.com is where you can reach me. 4y

peaKnit Is this the Kindle Oasis? If so, do you love it? (edited) 4y
Reecaspieces @peaknit yes...however, I much prefer to read on my nook. But the book does not have email capabilities and being a book blogger that limits me. 4y
peaKnit Thank you, good to know! I‘m not that excited about my newest paper white and wonder about the oasis. 4y
Reecaspieces @peaknit I had a paper white at first. It has been my least favorite. It is much heavier and just not my favorite. The oasis is a much better product 4y

The messiness of living, with tragic turns and human resilience, is the type of story that often appeals to me, as I like how real it feels. My Kind of People by Lisa Duffy is a book with, well, my kind of people. Have you heard about this one yet? It looks like it‘s going to be an incredibly moving story.

My Kind of People is due for publication on 5/12/20. Thank you Atria Books for this advance reading copy through Goodreads.
